Best oil for BMW E30 and E39?

Hello from Croatia!

I have oil question for two BMW's.
First BMW E30 320i M20B20 engine, year of production 1990., covered about 140.000 miles, runs like new, small oil consumption, last three changes I used SHELL Helix Plus 10-40, before that Liqui Moly Superleichtlauf 10-40...I wasn't too happy with this one cause engine worked loud and rough also used it alot. Is this current Shell good oil for me and if not what is your suggest?

Second car is BMW E39 528i manual, 1997., covered 200.000 miles, recently rebuild engine...what oil do you suggest?

both cars are driven in mild climate, minimal temperature about -5◦C and maximum about 38◦C, usually city driving with some open road.

I've had good luck with both Mobil 0W-40 and Rotella 5W-40 in my BMW.

I had a tiny bit of consumption with the 0W, so I'd probably try something thicker in the E30.

Rotella 5w-30 works beautifully in my e30.

 

[MCompact]

Rotella 5W-40 or M1 5W-40 TDT would work well in the E39, as would M1 0W-40
