Best oil for 2007 Mazdaspeed 3

Hello, I'm looking to go synthetic with my next oil change. I'm at around 6900 miles now. I have changed the oil twice so far. I've run Mobil 1 in my cars for a long time but am wondering if there is a better choice for my situation. During the week I don't drive it but a dozen miles a day. But on weekend evenings I can go out for a while and really heat it up (if you know what I mean). For those unfamiliar the motor is a 2.3 4cyl Direct Injected Turbo. Thanks for all input.

I would highly consider RLI.


I would also consider Amsoil/Pennzoil Platinum.

Buster had good recommendations but getting an analysis from Terry Dyson would be an excellent idea with your engine as it seems to beat up the oil pretty badly.

Any off-the-shelf synthetic, in the recommended viscosity, should work like a charm. Pick your favorite & sleep easy.

If you're not brand loyal, look for BOGO sales. Those can make synthetic oil the same price as most conventional oils.

Some good buys at regular price are M1, Pennzoil Platinum & Q synthetic, all in the 5 qt. jugs at Wal-of-China-Mart. All 3 were under $20, last time I checked.

I'd recommend something that RI_RS4 would use

Amsoil 0w30 TSO, that's the lastest high tech oil u can find and that will be a good fit with DI engines

otherwise i will go for 10W-40 for maximum protection, as i do with my Type-R engine

PP seems to be a recomended 5w30 oil for this DI engine. I will be using it in my CX7 and will be sending a sample in to Terry for an analysis. PP is easy to find at AP and WalMart now is selling it for $19.xx for a 5 quart jug. If I was going for the very best I'd go to RL1 as suggested. I don't know anything about the Amsoil offering nor have I seen any used oil analysis on from a DI engine.

I really think you should give Amsoil a try. Usually does pretty good in the wear department with fuel dilute. ASL, ATM, TSO even HDD and ACD are worth a look.....

I agree with the ANY full synthetic in the required weight IF the oil change interval is reasonable. BTW, most owners manuals do not state reasonable intervals.

If you don't mind a slightly thicker oil, then ANY 0w40 or 5w40 would be an easy upgrade, and I'd recommend it during the spring/summer OCI's. I'm guessing that it gets cold in the winter so I would stick with the 5w30 or 0w30's during the fall/winter OCI's.

+1 Check the current fill with Terry when it's time and give PP a shot. If anything, Terry should start to build up some good data on our engine

Amsoil does very well according to Terry for fuel dilution. Not sure how it compares to PP though.
