Best Oil Filter

Ok, that clears it up Triple_7.

GMC_Z71, I believe it is only the PF61 that doesn't have an ADBV. The shop I work at (which I'm at right now) stocks ACDelco filters, and I just went and checked, and the PF61 seems to be the only one w/out an ADBV. I checked the PF46 for you and it does have one.

The Stratopores for my Cummins were about $20, now I pay $8 for the Wix XE equivalent. The regular Cummins filters were $10 from NAPA

You can get LF16035 Stratopore filters for Cummins through Scheid Diesel or Geno's Garage for $9/each. I order them 6 at a time and have never had a problem. You can also order individually for less than $10/each.

A ADBV is a better design filter IMO. It stops the oil from reverser flowing back to the lowest point (pan). There is no real disadvantge that I can see to have one in the filter, except for the mess of changing it.

This has several advantages;
1.) Oil is trapped above filter and when cold engine is started, oil reachs critical areas faster (reduced noise at startup)
2.)Filtered oil is not washed back over the dirty side of filter possibly disloging trapped dirt.

If the PF61 is the OEM filter and it doesn't have the anti-drain....without crawling under the vehicle something tells me the filter on his engine hangs straight down. In which case the anti-drain is not needed and would perform no value. Won't hurt to put one on there, but it would perform no value.

If the UPF44 works..i'd use it. Totally synthetic media and designed for the Corvette. Has all the bells and whistles..

I knew about Scheid, I didn't think Geno's filters were the same price - good to know.

I just found some M1 T&SUV so I am going to use up my last Wix XE and do an extended drain and then a UOA next change. It will be interesting to see how it compares to Stratopore. I prefer to order Wix as it helps with the $50 free shipping from Filter1, but if it isn't as good, I will obviously switch.
