Best oil choice for jeep

Got a jeep wrangler jk 2009 with the 3.8.I live in a severe condition climate, during winter it does drop sometime at -50 degree Celsius usually stay around -30.Summer are around 25 Celsius .Driving condition are mixed, can be off road, some city, lots highway and recently did a 9000k trip. I currently use Mobil 1 5w20, any better option? I use a block heater and a pad heater on the oil pan to for this extreme cold day.

If you are going to be doing 1/year drain intervals, I'd use Mobil 1, Amsoil or PU.

I change my oil every 5000k ,sometime 4000K,and use wix filter.

Mobil 1 sounds like the right thing to use.

You might get slightly better cold-weather protection if you used Mobil 1 0w30 as opposed to 5w30, otherwise it seems like you've got a good thing going.

Sounds like a case for motorcraft Blend to me with 5k intervals.

Work ,im in the oilsand in the north of Alberta in Canada,the black gold need to be dig no matter how cold it is lol.

With winters like that I'd go with a 0w-20 instead of the 5w-20

Does Chrysler allow 0W-20 in the Jeep?

With -50C temps find the 0W-20 with the lowest pour point available in your area.

I'd be more concerned with the rest of the driveline in that cold. Your oil choice is fine, but I'd be on the phone with the closest Amsoil dealer to replace ALL the fluids in one shot(transmission/tcase/diffs).

I'd most certainly order up a butt warmer too.

Its sound worse then it actually is ,the trans run just fine, only problem come from the boot over the shift lever who become extremely stiff in the cold ,

Amsoil would do no good for the transmission ,they use a triple cone syncro and is extremely sensible to oil ,many other jk owner did try rp , amsoil with poor result ,for the trans ill stick with oem , i just change it more often and since im still under warranty ... I will go with the MS-9224 requirement. There is better person to discuss about that part in the proper section, but multiple post in jeep club convince me to stick with oem .

And I would have no worry running, Amsoil or RP in the engine, transfer case or differential .The engine is an old design from 1990 3.3 dodge caravan engine bore to 3.8 .

My choice would be Mobil 1 0w-20 or Amsoil 0w-20. Think I'd feel better if all the fluids were changed to synthetic after a reasonable break in period.

I don't know about being no good. It's just an NSG370. It's the same transmission used in later TJ's. Amsoil meets MS-9224, but whatever you choose is up to you.

you could go with a good dino Motorcraft 5000 or Pennzoil conventional.

Pennzoil Platinum 5W-20. It is thin enough that it can be considered a 0W-20.

since i do my change in very short interval ,i think ill just run the 0w20 during winter,and keep the 5w20 during the summer.

I had a dodge with the HO cummins and NV5600 six spd., and it speced the same transmission oil as your jeep. I tryed the Royal Purple stuff and didn't like it. I tryed the Redline MTL, and was much happier with the shift feel, especially when cold. The general concensus on the cummins forums was either the Redline, the oem stuff, or Amsoil, although some reported the Amsoil breaking down when stressed heavily, but that wouldn't be a problem with your jeep.

I'm running Kendal GT1 5w-20 synthetic in my jeep right now and am happy with it. My lifter tick basically disappeared with it. After this change, I was gonna switch to the Motorcraft stuff adn possibly stick with that, but I think I wanna try a run of the Pennzoil Ultra before trying that now that that is out. The motorcraft stuff is pretty hard to beat for the money.
