I have a family member I change the oil on with a Jeep Rubicon 4/0L in line that I am lucky to see and service every 9,000 to 10,000 miles . What are the better long drain synthetics that play nice with a jeep 4.0L inline ? I plan to use with a Fram ultra oil filter so looking for the best long drain protection (synthetic oil brands I can buy from Walmart are preferred) . Thanks in advance ...

Chevron has a 5W-40 out now too.
I used AMSOIL Signature Series, 0w, 5w, and 10w30 flavors in my 2004 Grand Cherokee 4.0, with some great used oil analysis, for almost 10 years and 100,000 miles.
A note about 'M1: the 5w30 showed more than twice the iron than any other oil I did a used oil analysis on (Valvoline conventional, Super Tech Syn, and Amsoil)

You really can't with that engine. They beat up oil. If you check the used oil analysis the best results appear to be T6 5w40. Mobil 1 Extended Performance or Mobil 1 High Mileage maybe. Reg M1 not so good (high metals in analysis)

Mine actually seems to like Maxlife 10W40, it's running the cheap NextGen from the O'Reilly's clearance of a couple years ago-consumption is way down from the Maxlife synthetic 5W30 that I was running. Hot oil pressure better too. Hope it will start OK cold, it has done OK so far (lowest has been 20F here). Pennzoil Conventional is a good choice too, lots of moly.
In a 4.0 Jeep,don't be concerned with CAFE stds. Go thick. 10w 40 is good to -15F, my fav, 20w 50 is good down to to 10 F . I have never used 15-40 diesel rated oil. But it will probably do what you want.

An oil's ability to neutralize acid is one of the easiest tests to make. I did it all the time in college, and so will any oil analysis company.
Try again with some claim that can't be easily disproved OK? You're not making it with this one. How about "quietness" instead, that's probably the most subjective.

Also, does that engine use a lot of oil betweeen OCI? Has the valve cover been removed to determine the condition of the motor (sludge or varnish)?

I'd skip the 40's. It made the engine in my JGC feel more sluggish, and hit my fuel economy a bit.
Look through the used oil analysis, and you'd be hard pressed to find a better oil than Pennzoil.
I used RT6 for a bit, but I'm clocking 261k miles on mostly Pennzoil Conventional 10w30, using 7k OCI's.
