Best HM oil for the cold?

I thought I saw this question recently, but I can't find anything in my searches.

So... which non-synthetic, High Mileage 5W30 is best for a Canadian winter?

Choices are:

1. Pennzoil High Mileage
2. Valvoline HM
3. Castrol GTX HM

I have been using valvoline maxlive 5w30 in my 96 Escort year round here in Michigan and have had great results. At 114,000 miles the car does'nt use any oil and runs beautifully! I strongly recommend this oil!

I just checked the numbers and Valvoline has both lower CCS and MRV numbers compared to the Pennzoil High Mileage, plus the Valvoline is formulated thinner. Can't compare Castrol; they don't publish hardly any spec other than viscosity. Valvoline Maxlife would be the best choice of those 3.

Yuk, this week the best High Mileage oil is the Castrol because it is available at Canadian Tire for half price until closing on Thursday. Time to stock up.

No contradiction here...

I guess I'll go with Valvoline since it's not going into a turbo oil masher, and the ambient temps aren't likely to go above 0c during the OCI.

Yeah, I hear ya. When I went to CT to take advantage of the sale they were all out. So, I went to Wal-Mart with a CT flyer and had them match the price -5%. Final price a Wally's was $9.02/4.4L jug.
