Best filter below 10 dollars?

Factoring in the cost to drive to the store or shipping I go for what I can get at my nearby Walmart where I shop regularly. A special trip to an auto store adds to the cost and time, and time is money! At WM Fram TG and XG fit that price point. Not 100% sure now that Fram has removed the wire from XGs, and I am seeing wavy pleats. I really like the grippy cans too.

Yeah I will just buy the Tough Guard I guess.
Extra Guard/Tough Guards are the best value at the moment in my opinion for the filtration and construction they provide. The SuperTech MP filters are also good, but at least at my WalMart they are very hit or miss as far as what is in stock.

I honestly haven't even stepped in an auto parts store for a filter in a couple years. They are always way over priced. My local Autozone had Fram Extra Guards for $8 because they want you to buy their STP filters, and even the Proformer line of Napa (replaces Proselect?) are more than walmart now.

I go with the auto manufacturer's oil filters when i can. By them in bulk, they are cheap too.
Depends on the OEM, some of them really aren't anything to write home about. Toyota and Honda OEM filters are great, AC-Delco is decent, but Motorcraft and Mopar aren't all that impressive for the price.

The light test (y). Turns each center tube while holding the flashlight so it shines into them to see all of the louvers . " THE SHINING " starts @ 2:03 in the video above .

09 VW Rabbit - Mann (OEM)
13 VW GTI - Genuine VW (Mann)
02 4R - Genuine Toyota

All of these are $10 or under

My difficulty buying OEM filters is they have no published specs for efficiency at a micron level or mileage life and in a number of cases they are more expensive than the high quality aftermarket. Our Walmart is now selling Subaru OEM filters for $10.97. This is over $2 more than a Fram Ultra that has excellent performance and life specs.

Sell the sizzle not the steak's 🥩specs

At least that was what they said at the meat counter.

Motorcraft ecoboost canister filters were really nice, but they did recently change them. More like an Ultra now. Ford put a lot of them on when I was getting free oil changes, and none of those Fords went poof, but none of those were canister filters.

I have one in the garage. Right now I have about 11 or 12k on the old style fram ultra from the last winter oil change. It still looked good 2 weeks ago.

I'm not a picky B about oil, but a good filter is a necessity.

Purolator filters (I don't even know if they are still made by Purolator, guess I need to research) used to be kind of meh. Having a canister filter does mean I can look at it at will to see if it is torn or janky in any way. All manufacturers should go to canister filters. So easy and convenient. Never have to wonder if my 9-11$ ultra is fubar.

What you have is a "cartridge" style filter. A "canister" filter is a metal can, spin-on style filter.

I have in my possession I plan to run and most I have run in the past

Pentius XL (new to me)
Parts + Plus EX (same as microguard XL apparently - new to me
Champ XL
Supertech MP - same as Champ XL except with silicon ADBV
Denso
Fram US
Fram TG
Fram Orange Can

All were well under 10 bucks, many by a lot. All look to be fine filters with decent specs.

I also have some standard wix and an OEM Nissan I don't think I will run - it appears the louvers are not open far enough?
