Both filters are the EXACT same including the printing (except for the packaging and the O-ring gasket).
Available for 5 €/$ each, but without the BMW packaging. So you get two of them for 10 bucks. I use to run these on my Mini. Given its synthetic and vastly strong media it easily fits the bill.
You can do that for most BMW filters. For my BMW M62, the BMW factory filter is a Hengst. $25 at the dealer, yet $7 online in a Hengst box, rather than a BMW box. Same with my N62TU, the BMW factory filter is a Mahle for $28 and I can find online for $17.

Purflux filters are interesting designs. My Ferrari uses a spin on version. The purpose of the z folds is to increase the filter area while in a smaller package. Ferrari has used Purflux oil filters for most of their cars since the late 1990s. Prior to that they used UFI (70s, 80s, early 90s) and still do for those cars. Going even further back to the 1960s they used Fram.

Purflux for my Ferrari is $70 (darn "Ferrari tax", so they can get away with it, and there is no cross reference substitute)
