The best performing filter for under $10 is the Fram Ultra Synthetic at $8.97 with a performance ranking of #2.
Four other filters under $10 have a performance ranking of #3 at lower prices.

Yes but demonstrate the downgrade and the effect it had on performance. Haven't seen it reliably quantified as of yet, unless I missed it. Maybe you are the guy to present it.
The new Ultra still holds up fairly well, and in terms of efficiency it is probably the best under $10.
I certainly wouldn't run them for 20,000 miles though, keep them to normal intervals.
My question is if you are willing to go to $10 why not go to $10.99 and get a Microgard Select or other good options under $12

Fram Tough Guard for $6.88 at Wally World, can’t see paying the extra for the XG without screen backing. 99%@20 microns is sufficient.
Agreed. It is consistently at the top of my database for its filtering performance and life at a great price.
I go with the auto manufacturer's oil filters when i can. By them in bulk, they are cheap too.
