That is why I use Awesome from the dollar store. Its mild on paint, trim and aluminum.
I have been power washing motors for decades. Never had a problem. Modern motors are sealed well. Sure use common sence and don't power spray the alternator electronics or the fan belts and blades. The fuse box is weather tight(usually).
I spray it on , let it soak on a warm motor and the entire area, let it sit 10 minutes , pressure it off.

I buy the Awesome 32oz refills by the case from dollar tree. $12 bucks for 12 32oz bottles shipped free to the local store. Can't beat that! Been using it for years. But it's just one cleaning product of many in my arsenal.

For engines, I like to go a step further: Megs Super Degreaser

Even so, APC/APC+ and Super Degreaser are two must-have products around the house/garage.

This is the second best I ever used in industrial setting. Spray Nine
http://www.spraynine.com/product/non-butyl-cleanerdegreaser-641

The BEST was, as I recall, NBC cleaner/degreaser. I am going to sleep for a couple hours tho. Work in a few. Will look tomorrow.
NBC was the BRAND, not the type.

It was used for so much, but could not contact unpainted aluminum. It would etch it but actually looked nice. IE alternator housings.
