Best car for teens? '77 Ford Country Squire Station Wagon.

Old MB diesel with 4-sp stick. Epitome of low cost, efficient, safe and long-lasting... Plus lets them learn physics.

Right on!

Those cars cost more than my car!

Get them a Vulcan 3.0 powered Taurus. Set some money aside just in case the transmission goes belly up. Save the balance that S40 would have cost for college.

That list must be made for teens with well off parents. I would say something that is safe, fuel efficient, and reliable. An older 4 cylinder Camry fits that.

My eldest son's first set of wheels will be an ex PI Vic most likely.

A wagon or a car with a large backseat lets them study biology.

I got my daughter a 1990 Lada Samara - a way uncool 2 door hatch.Way uncool is the only way to go.One day she came back to her car and found it was gone, she went to the cop shop and tearfully told them her car had been stolen. When she told him the make and model, the cop burst out laughing and said ''I don't think anyone would have stolen it''.It wasn't,just a parking towaway.

I'll be coming up on this issue in a year...

The last car on the list, a Porsche Boxster???

I remember reading a non-fiction book where a well-to-do fellow bought his son a Stutz Bearcat (this was during the depression). Anyway, the son put the Stutz into a tree and killed himself. So this is a story that's quite old.

I remember how I was at his age...

Something slow, and even though I'm not overly religious, I'll pray.

If they wanted a car It would be a Accord/Camry but most likely a Fusion or panther.

If they wanted a truck, I'd look for an older F-150 or ranger.

No kidding. That's a pretty absurd list of cars for a new driver. The only ones that make any real sense are the Camry, 3, and Sonata. Everything else is going to require mom & dad to spend a lot on either the vehicle, its maintenance, or both.

I don't see what's so horrible about putting a 16 year old in a reliable, safe, 5-10 year old run of the mill car. Does a 16 year old really need a 3 year old Mercedes?

Non-turbo Subaru Impreza, Non Turbo Saab or Volvo.

That's the choices for my kid who still has 4 years to go.

I agree with this..Kids get into ALOT of accidents so a nice used C.V.P.I. [or any Panther] would be the best thing for them for their first car..Alot of 16-21 year olds here in Miami drive used Police Interceptors..To my surprise they drive them very carefully.
