Best Brand of Gasoline

For those of you who rate your fuel selections based on the MPG you got running a specific brand, I assume you have measured and adjusted for the other variables that affect fuel consumption, such as:
  • Tire pressure
  • Tire alignment
  • Engine temperature
  • Acceleration/braking pattern
  • Percent short trips
  • Idling time
  • Gasoline BTU variations
  • Engine condition/maintenance
  • Road type & conditions
  • Aerodynamic drag
  • Air conditioning usage
  • Seasonal gas formulations
  • Air temperature
  • Air humidity
  • Gasoline temperature
  • Tire type
  • Consistency of fill
  • Altitude changes
  • Vehicle weight
  • Computer MPG accuracy
  • Octane rating/accuracy
  • Hilly terrain
  • Air filter condition
  • Traffic jams
Man this should be a sticky for every one is those “I did this or that and my MPG changed 1 MPG” posts.

Usually I get Costco since it's less than a mile from my house and the cheapest in the area, but QuikTrip's gas is pretty decent too when Costco's pumps are closed. I used to swear by Amoco in the 90's...but that was just a phase I guess. 😁

Aound here Shell has been consistently garbage. I get more water at many MObil than most places.
So I have been using Irving. Actuall a mix of Mobil and Irving seem to make a nice drink for the engine.

It all depends o where you live. You must use top tier fuel on new engines. It least that's what the O.M dictates
for the new vehicles Ive bought. Also no E15 unless you have flex fuel the O.M. it states it can acommodate 15% ethanol

Another vote for Shell not worth pumping

Chevron and Shell pretty much exclusively. In stay away from non branded gas such as Valero and Costco.

My local Exxon is constantly updated equipment wise with high traffic and always clean.
Sticking with it whenever possible.

Mobil Exxon are some of the cleanest stations around. I had around a 1 year stint delivering Mobil Atwood and Mobil Vernon. Very strict regulations and rules concerning the additives and ethanol content.

Canadian Tire bc of the CT ‘money’ (points) you get with gas purchases.
Years ago, I had an ‘02 Cavalier that I swear ran better on Petro-Canada gas.
