Best and Worst SET of tires you've ever put on

I seem to remember Sumitomo and Bridgestone Turanza as being two of my favorite. Michelins are a good overall tire. Firestone and Goodyear seemed to fall sort; usually in the wear or noise category. Even on new cars they cheap out. My 2007 Grand Prix GT came with a great set of Michelins; the base model got you Firestones.

I have Yokohama S306s on my Capri that are over 10 years old, still plenty of tread on them and they are not too hard, and not dry rotted by any means, so i would rate them highly. 185/70-R13 86H. Soon to be replaced by a set of 185/70-R13 86V Pirelli Cinturato CN36s, which are 140$ a corner!! , luckily i have no wife that will be making me sleep on the couch for that so...

My current fleet is riding the following, none of which have made much of an impression on me either way: '06 Kia 2 @ Goodyear Assurance, 2 @ Cooper CS5 Touring...the Coopers seem to lose air quickly, about half worn '14 Accord, brand new Sumitomo HTR A/S P02, so far so good '16 CR-V Bridgestone Duelers, not sure of the model number '17 Jetta Bridgestone Ecopia EP422 Plus...700 miles on them, I'm sure they're fine.

Worst: Michelin HydroEdge tires, they were so noisy it was unbelievable, sounded like an airplane going down the road. Michelin Cross Terrains were fantastic as far as ride and noise but they dry rotted off the Trailblazer, 2 sets. Okay tires: General Altimax RT43, they're ok. Cheap and pretty quiet, not that good of handling. Best: Pirelli Cinturato P7+ best all around tire, not a single complaint.

Worst: BCT S800. These were on one axle with a set of wheels I bought. Tyres looked brand new. No grip when cold or wet., but since the other axle had nearly worn tyres of similarquality it made handling very interesting: 4 wheel drifts out of corners. Then I put some high quality tyres on to replace the worn set, and crashed within 2 days: the new tyres up front wanted to hang on in a corner, the BCT at the back wanted to let go. Made a 180° turn iso 90° and took a tree in the drivers door at +- 40 Mph. Didn't need to be much faster to kill me, I losqt consciousness at the moment of impact. http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/BCT/S800.htm Best is trickier, I definitely like the Michelin Crossclimates but they lack a bit during turn-in. So maybe the edge goes to the Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 altough those never lasted more than 10k miles and had zero grip on snow or ice.

Best: LeMans Touring or Arizonian Silver Edition on my old '95 Integra. Both were great for grip and also in the rain/snow. The Arizonians felt just like a snow tire to me and I could get around in the worst snow storms without an issue. I put probably 15,000 miles on them and they still looked like new. I think I put around 50 or 60k on the LeMans before the insides got worn out from a lack of rotations and/or faulty suspension components. My girlfriend also had a set of Michelin Premiers on her '01 Civic before it was totaled and they were very good in the wet and snow. Didn't really get an opportunity to test the tread wear. We also had good results with Dunlop Sport 7000s on a 2013 Honda Fit Sport. Even though they were low profile, they performed admirably in the snow and gripped like a go kart in all conditions. Worst: Sumitomo HTR PS A/01 also on my old Integra and on my girlfriend's old '99 Grand Am. We bought both sets around the same time, and they were awful on both vehicles. Harder over the bumps and downright scary in the rain and snow. I slid through many red lights and stop signs in the Integra and eventually sold them with plenty of tread left to get the Arizonians above. It's odd, because they typically got good reviews but they were the worst I've ever used on both of the vehicles we had them on. Runners up would be either the Ohtsu FP7000 or Continental Extreme Contact DWS on my 08 Scion tC. They were fine in dry/rain but completely frustrating and useless in the snow.

Best: Michelin Defender. Great all around tire. Worst: Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max. Had to ditch them with plenty of tread left because I couldn't stand the noise anymore.

Worst: I had a set of Goodyear Eagles put on my Honda del Sol Si about 20 years ago. I don't recall the specific model (wish I could) but they were obviously designed to LOOK like their Gatorback line but the construction and pricing were all lower-end passenger car tire. The hard rubber compound and soft construction completely ruined any sporting intentions the car had. It went from a fun, agile little go-kart to a mushy soft commuter car. I should have done my homework better. Best: The Continental ContiExtremeContacts I put on my Impreza RS were the perfect match for the car's all-weather sporty driving. They were not fantastic at any one thing, but they were [censored] good at everything. I would have bought another set if they hadn't been discontinued.

I love my Duratracs on my truck. Havent really had any bad tires other than the ones I used to put on my little metro, they were all used tires for 20 bucks installed at a little gehto shop.

Best -Motormaster LXR (No longer in prouction). Had those on both my 84 Rabbit and 97 Escort. Quiet, comfy and reliable! So-so -Conti DWS. Long before the tread wore out they became VERY noisy. Treadwear was ok, but this was my first "performance" All Season tire Worst -Kumho Supra Ecsta. Terribly noise, right from the time I left the tire store. Never knew it was the tires causing all the problems. Due to this experience I'll never own another set of them as they seem mediocre at best.

Worst-OEM Michelin MXV4 (they would break loose on ever so slight wet pavement and were noisy. In rain they were downright dangerous.) Best Kumho KH17 (Quiet-Long Lasting-Good value for the money)

The OEM Dunlops on my 99 Camry weren't so hot. I changed the tires and the wheels from 14s to 15s. Problem solved, and well. New tires were BFG.

Best: - Michelin Pilot Sport 4S (summer) - Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3 (winter) Worst: - Falken FK452 (made my last car unbearable to drive) Fondly Remembered: - Michelin Pilot Super Sport (first tire I could run down to the wear bars and be okay in the rain) - Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 (convinced me never to go cheap on tires again) - Bridgestone Potenza RE050A (OE tire on my current car -- still miss the steering response) - Bridgestone Blizzak LM-25 (first winter tire) - Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position (best tire I ran before discovering season-specific sets) Not-So-Fondly Remembered: - Bridgestone Potenza G009 (okay in the rain, bad on the spine) - Kumho Ecsta SPT (lackluster performance, bouncy ride) - Toyo Proxes 4 (not really good at anything IIRC)

Cooper CS5 Ultra Touring V-rated 225/50R17 Came with Michelin MXM4 Pilots as OE Have also run Cooper CS4s and liked them so much I bought the CS5s I think the coopers ride a bit better than the michelins, saw a bit of mpg loss. They are about $50 less a tire and made in America. Good enough for me Haven't had a bad tire in years. I've stuck with cooper and before that Bridgestone
