With winter season approaching soon I was wondering which 5w30 dino oil had the best pour point/winter performance capabilities? Thanks.

Last time I checked......pennzoil 5w30 had the lowest pour point of the commonly available OTC dino's.........but things change all the time.

Just looked at the weather record for Pullman, WA. You seldom see a 0F degree day. Maybe 2 or 3 days a year it will be below -0-. Any 5w30 can handle those temps, even Wal*Mart SuperTech 5w30 dino. My preference is Pennzoil because of the add package.

I was wondering the same question about the commonly available 5w20 dinos? Anybody know which is best between Pennzoil,Exxon,Havoline,or Citgo? Thanks

If you have a Wal-Mart in the area, and I suspect you do, then you would be hard pressed to beat the Motorcraft 5w30 Synthetic Blend at $1.42 a qt. I believe this oil is made for Motorcraft by Conoco. I think any 5w30 would do well in you climate.

Does anyone know where any of these new Conoco/Phillips oils can be found?

Like Jakebrake stated, look for the red bottle Motorcraft 5w30. I neglected to mention in my first post that Motorcraft is made by Conoco.

You Betcha! One of the new GF-4, 5w30 Grp III synthetic blends from ConocoPhillips is a great choice.

Grp III base oils have very good cold temp properties. The CCV of 4500 cP @ -30C is an impressive number for a blend!

Hopefully in addition to Motorcraft at Walmart, the new 5w30 TropArtic blend will show up at AutoZone, Advance, Checker, Kragen, etc.

AutoZone is the only chain I know of that carries Trop Artic now (we don't have Checker & Kragen in Indiana). Even Wal*Mart quit carrying it around here. I've been checking various AutoZones around town and have yet to see the new TA blend. And they still have a LONG rows of "old school" Trop Artic still on the shelves, so it may be a while before I see any.

CYPRS, I think the XD-3 is probably a killer product, but I don't think it is available in the U.S. ???

Haley10, in reading American posts in here I believe it is, on our lable up here it is manufactured under Exxon ***Exxon Mobil Corporation.

I have heard it called Exxon XD3 something from American posts. Up here we have to go to an Esso Bulk Dealers for it, it is now coming to Walmart but prices are too high there, it is $5.50 litre there and $3.71 litre at Esso Bulk. I dont know what your Exxon/Esso sales format is there, bulk or dept sales distribution, I am quite certain you have XD3 Elite, light,??? or something like that down there. I am trying to remember from American posts.

Up here it is called Esso XD3 Extra. Mobil is part of Imperial Oil, Imperial oil is Esso, Esso synthetics up here is now transfered to the Mobil for manufacturing from what I have read in posts here.

Be carefull, Esso/Exxon just changed this XD3 product from a semi syn to a full syn, there is old semi syn stock out there, look for full syn, full syn is same price as old semi syn.

Any Americans know where this XD3 available there? Hope helps some Haley10. It is a killer oil, one has to pinch himselve to see if he is dreaming on the value, pourpoint, heat viscosity and TBN. I am sure you have it there from Exxon.

good luck,
Cyprs

Esso/Exxon XD3 5-30 CI-4/SL Dino has pour point of -36C or -32F. TBN 12.2

Esso/Exxon XD3 0-30 syn CI-4/SL oil has -48C or -57F pour point, this Esso/Exxon oil is $3.71 quart Canadian, probably quite a bit less American funds, full synthetic with TBN 12.2. It has same heat viscosity as most 5-30 oils with the great pour point. I cant think of a better winter oil for price, pour point, heat viscosity protect which surpasses 5-30 grade, and TBN 12.2.

Esso syn superflo, -39C or -39F pourpoint, tbn of only 8.6, $2.00 a litre more than XD3 0-30 syn., WHY? This Superflo 5-30 has less pourpoint flow and less hot viscosity protection.

Esso Protec SL Dino has pour point -36C or -36F, TBN 7.5.

I use Esso oil, so I keep on on Exxon/Esso specsnprices.
