Honestly, IMHO Mobil Super Synthetic has no place in the M1 line-up these days. The only places that **normally** carry it are auto parts stores and it tends to be very expensive compared to M1 at box stores. As for differences, I believe that MSS has less PAO than M1 and MSS has a titanium/sodium based additive package whereas M1 has a moly/boron based package. M1 also has a slightly higher starting TBN. Is MSS good oil? Sure, no problems there, but is M1 better? Likely yes--for the money and the fact that M1 has been rated for 10K OCIs (at one point) indicates to me that Mobil believes that M1 is better than MSS.

I bought it at Fred Meyer on sale and got the rebate making it under $10 for 5 quarts. I believe it was $3.49 per quart and the rebate was $9, used to be $7 but now it has been upgraded to $9 since it is synthetic versus the MS5K which gets you a $7 rebate, limit 2 rebates.

I looked for it at autozone and O'Reilly ....I thought it would be a big price difference if you can find it. Thanks for the info ...stick with m1 then... It's everywhere and easy to find on sale

They have MS5K and MS5KHM at my nearest wal-mart. I currently use the 10w-40 MS5KHM as make up oil. The 5qt jug was $14.17 when I bought it and received a $7 rebate. Last time I saw though, it had jumped a dollar to $15.17
