This was painted in 11/2021. House faces west.

At the time this was new wood siding. I primed, then painted 2 coats of Behr Ultra. Possibly 3.

Seems premature for 4.5ish years. Thoughts?

@PandaBear bear nailed it, wood is not dimensionally stable, T1-11, Cedar, pine, etc, you name it. The paint adhered perfectly to the wood, the wood cracked. If a paint company were to send a rep out to check that job out for paint failure, they'd tell you the paint didn't fail, the wood cracked. The problem is wood harvested today for construction is young wood that was planted to replace trees used to supply wood for construction. It tends to crack, split, twist, and rot, very early. Ever go to HD and look for a good straight 2x3, or 2x4? LOL it's a chore!!! Yes some lumberyards have wood that's a little better than the big players, but not by much. Bottom all the good well aged trees have been harvested many decades ago.

I've repaired a lot of premium high quality wooden windows made by well respected compaines in multi-million dollar homes, that were properly primed and painted that rotted after about 15-20 years, some quite a bit less.
