Ad Block if you're using FF
It's a neat banner though ..but can play havoc if you're tapped for resources. On message board that I used to visit often had some "Hit the shark and win an Ipod" thing with big sharks with targets painted on them streaming across the top of the screen. It was a time share rotation of the banner ..so it was easier to figure out that the shark banner taxed the machinery.

Get FF. IE appears to have plenty of blocking software available ..but it looks like you're paying for it. FF has so many free utilities and is so user configurable it's not even funny. I'm sure you can get as much out of IE ..but I can't imagine going back to it.

There are still some pages that won't work properly in FF because the pee brains that made the pages followed MS standards instead of web standards. Install the IE View extension in FF and you can open the occasional poorly written page in IE with your right mouse button.
