Been hot in Texas

I saw a news clip yesterday that talked about how many thousands of people would die if a major city in a hot western state suffered a major electric power grid failure for 5 to 7 days. It pointed out the fact that soooooooo many dwellings are not designed to be able to maintain a cool enough living temperature on hot days if they did not have electricity.

And sorry, but I just have to tell you about my day today. I took my steel string acoustic guitar, my nylon string clasical guitar, and my violin to a local park today with food in a small cooler. 78 F & 40% humidity, light wind, clean air, no rain. Truly a beautiful day. Sometimes a summer day in south west Pennsylvania can be spot on perfect weather. At the end of the day I walked in the park with 2 flashlights while I wore a safety reflective vest. No bugs bothering me ( usually bugs after sunset don't get annoying until fall and even then there not that bad unless your near a body of water).

If everyday in Pittsburgh was like today, people would be moving here to retire.
Thanks, you just described every day in San Diego. (y)

My wife and I went to her high school reunion in Corpus Christi about 15 years ago in the summer and I remember when leaving the hotel in mornings while we were there it was like walking into an oven, close to 100 every day and blazing sun. I've lived on both the east and west coasts, as well as many places in between and have visited many cities including TX and FL, so I'm familiar with heat and humidity, but that trip always stands out in my memory. As I often say to my wife, it's the kind of weather that kills people. What made it all worth it though was the many hole-in-the-wall mom and pop Mex food places throughout the area. So good! :)

Mine can - extremely reliable + my own backup …
I have a swamp cooler on the deck - contrary to popular opinion - they do work with our humidity - good enough to take a break - cool down etc -
I just turn on a fresh mister instead of the recirculating pump - it’s next to a flower bed anyway 🌸
Can you show us a picture of the swamp cooler set up.

I need to do something for my Mom's place in Mexico is been hot like never before.

The operative word is "COULD". They say it every year. I think its a disclaimer, and an effort to urge people to conserve. Too many people want to jump on and bash TX and our grid without knowing the reality of it or any of the politics behind it. Nor is it "climate change", sigh. How about some real insite:

1) TX wanted to enhance our grid for many years. Inner city mayors like the one in Dallas fought it vehemetly, hoping it would fail at some point, to get some mileage out of it to blame and point fingers at our governor. These types are rotten to the core. They caused trouble.

2) TX is undergoing massive population growth. Its a challenge for ANY grid to keep up. You can't build it out overnight.

3) EV's are exacerbating the challenge. Crypto mining is adding to the demand.

Proof-of-work cryptocurrency mining such as Bitcoin consumes vast amounts of energy as millions of computers race to solve a complex algorithm and win digital currency. Cryptocurrency mining companies in Texas filed applications to connect new facilities to the grid with a projected demand of nearly 42 GW of electricity in 2027, enough electricity to power more than 8.3 million Texas homes during periods of peak demand.

But lets blame the Texas grid, of course. Thats fun to do.
Think about STP - they did all the legwork to obtain a permit to expand - add two new systems - bring the old kit down by 50% - yet still gain 50% output. The cooling water is there …
Could not fund it - but look what three big cities did not jump in to protect their own citizens … (where the wire runs now) …

When it is only 95 here people go outside and enjoy the cool weather. No kidding. Of course, it is a dry heat and that really does make a difference. We hit 107 last week, only 105 forecast forecast for a couple of days this week. Billt460 in Lake Havasu City can tell you the hot weather is still coming.

Hottest place I have ever experienced was SanAntonio Tx one summer. Been to Houston many times but that trip to S.A. was a heat we never felt before. Like you could cut thru it with a knife.

I do miss the desert. Yeah it's hot but sweat and swamp coolers work.

Here in NC when the temp and humidity hit together it is pure misery.

Houston media is saying 92 degrees is "deadly" and we should not go outside.

Houston hit 100 F or more in 40 of the last 100 years, however the maximum temp hit at least 100 F in all of the last 7 years, something that was not achieved in the previous 93 years and of course it set a record of 109 F last August.

Typical media response, although 92 will likely kill some people. Hopefully they know who they are and not to spend a long time outside..
What the athorities do is blame every death on "climate" whenever possible even though its a great strech. Think of a 68 year old with advanced cardiovascular issues, severe diabetes, advanced COPD, etc., and has been on supplemental oxyagen for years, happens to die during a hot day. The fact the guy was about to go anyway (or overdue) for any number of health issues his death would be blamed on "the heat".

No.thanks. got up to 58* here yesterday and that was too much.

Snow is melting pretty quick. Back to normal today. 42* right now.

Got a son and his family in Nashville and he said its been really nice in the evenings up there. I have not been there in years to visit. Hope to again one of these days. Used to get up there 2 - 3 times a year.
I'm about 20 miles outside of Nashville. That was true, but the weather changed Friday and it's been well above 90 everyday since, with no change coming in the 7 day. It's no longer nice in the evenings. Relatively nicer when the sun goes away, maybe, but not enjoyably. Lol. Maybe between midnight and 7am.

Today it's not windy. 65°F, good air quality. Bue sky. We got an 1,100-acre wildfire that is 20% contained in the Healdsburg area north of here.
