One thing that's real obvious looking at a map of where you live and where I live, there's a lot more HVAC companies where I live.
Maybe that has something to do with it. A choice of HVAC companies tends to weed out the ones that suck.

Which I fixed myself. Heatpumps aren't particularly complex pieces of equipment.
My modern heat pump and all the neighbors around - heat pumps have been just fine. It's malarky that they are not reliable.
Our dual fuel t-stat is very smart, and can juggle both LP burner and HP fairly intelligently. This last full week was definitely the most LP we used in any given time period and now at 32°F very glad to be back on 100% heat pump.
