I am looking for light that I can stick or hang under the hood when working on the engine bay. I prefer it to be battery operated (somehow uncomfortable with the idea of household electricty wires that close to an exposed engine or under car).
Anyone know if any such thing is out there ?

There are lots of rechargeable LED work lights for sale. In the $20 range on sale.

One reason some prefer a corded light is that it normally gives you an outlet to plug something into.

Before LED lights were practical, I used one of those 12V drop cords and it was awesome when I was doing field service. I use a rechargeable stick light I bought from Matco. There are some excellent flashlights on the cheap. I am looking into the snake light and some clamp on lights for hands free work. There is also a headlight if you are doing overhead work, not practical working under a car. Just a few ideas of what you may consider in a work light.

I got a Peak brand rechargeable LED on Black Friday from Mill's Fleet/Farm. It is actually very nice with multiple LEDs and about 220 lumens. It holds a good charge and has a magnet as well as a retractable hook for hanging.

With the proper coupon, free w/any purchase. Got one yesterday.

It may not lasted long, but it's free with any purchase is a good thing to have.

I have a few of the HF ones. Along with an LED that straps to my head. My Daughter gave me that one and it works great. Everywhere I look I have light.

I was in a Sears yesterday, they had a 50% sale on a cordless, rechargeable LED light. Exactly what you are describing, a hook on the top to hang from. If they'd had any left, I would have bought one. If its half as good as the corded one they sell, it'll be a great tool to have.

Im sorry but I dont remember the price, think it was down to about $20ish

Maybe check their website?

I use the DeWalt 12v LED lights with lithium batteries, no not cheap but can be stuck and aimed to work in about any position... I also have the impact wrench that uses same battery and can fit into places most impacts only dream of... No you won't torque lug nuts with it but its surprisingly powerful for it's size...

Pep boys sells led light strips. Mount some (maybe 3 or 4) under your hood and wire them to your car battery using a switch. They are very bright and draw very little juice.
