Battery Add-Ons

I know I have asked this question before, but since we now have more new members I am going to pose the question again.

For a top post battery, what add-ons do you folks use?

Do you use the felt terminal washers?

Do you use the spray-on Permatex chemical?

Do you use both?

Or do you use a penny and petroleum jelly like my auto shop teach does?

Tell me your strategy.

I simply wipe my battery clean, and I will spray the terminals with WD-40 twice a year, wiping off any excess from the terminal.

It's never failed- and at virtually no cost.

I use felt washers and CRC spray on chemical. It has been corrosion free for 3 years.

Isn't it a federal offense to use US currency for other purpose than, as money?

Clean the terminals and the inside of the cables.
Don't remove metal - do as little as possible.
Do not grease the cables before assembly - only after on the outside. Grease can be OK, but not my first choice.

What I have been using with great results is to spray paint Rustoleum [a few light coats] on the assembled connections. It works fantastic and seals it so there is no corrosion.
There are other spray and brush on electrical sealers available.

If I recall correctly, it's only a crime to deface currency and then attempt to use it as money. If you deface currency for some other, non-monetary purpose, you're in the clear (that's how novelty souvenir "coin crushers" can do their thing).

Coins aren't currency. IDK if the laws are different, but coins are supposed to have a useable metal value. (Yes most are technically tokens now except the nickel.)

If one wants a useful copper penny they need to go pre 1982.

I put a light coat of "Permatex® Dielectric Tune-Up Grease" on the battery terminals - works great, there is simply no corrosion buildup.

I've heard that NOCO NCP-2 is the best stuff on the market for preventing corrosion.

Does anyone have any experience with that stuff?

I make sure everything is clean and spray the posts and terminals with Fluid Film.

Ive never had a problem using dielectric grease spread thuroughly on the post and surrounding area. I then attach clean cables and they stay this way.

if posts are corroding, there is something else wrong.

I think it would be better to smear grease after everything has been attached & fastened.

Maybe, but I can get the grease down around the base of the terminals very nicely and consistently. The cables displace the grease, and leave a nice glob tightly in the voids. Of course, overall it is sparingly placed, but it has worked super-well and Ive never had a speck of corrosion...

The OE Daewoo battery cables have a weird setup where it uses a plastic washer underneath each terminal, so I was unable to use any type of felt washer.

So, I wasted the $1.19 on washers, but maybe I'll just put 'em on the Saturn.
