Awesome era of music (I'd say from 1979-1984). After that it got too poppy. I always liked the new wave and punk stuff. Most of these were around when I was in jr high school. A few of my faves:

PHD
Human League
Adam and the Ants
XTC
Captain Sensible
Tenpole Tudor
Boomtown Rats
REM
Oingo Boingo
Talking Heads
Dead Kennedys
Black Flag
Henry Badowski
Thomas Dolby
M
Stephen Duffy
Wall of Voodoo
Clash

I didn't seen Journey on the first 2 pages. Could have very well missed it, but thank you for restoring my faith in BITOG.

Couldn't have been that big, never heard of them...

I remember lots of bands, and lots of one hit wonders, from my college days, when a bud was an FM DJ, but...

"Rock you like a hurricane" by the Scorpions, If you haven't heard at least parts of that song.......I envy you!

And, after a bit of Googling, turns out that Europe played "Final Countdown" - another earworm that I could've lived without...

I like 80s music. The stuff of my college years, I hear it now and think of it being cranked up at parties, or the Oceana O'club

But not all of it was good...

And, some of it really hasn't aged well...

Too many more to mention. The 80s were a great time for rock and metal. It was a great time to be alive.

Two thumbs up, Jimmy, for the Joe Satriani mention!!! I was looking through the posts and was thinking how could he be overlooked!! I like his earlier releases the most as his latest ones have pushed very few of my buttons.

"Purple Rain" is the only movie, ever, where I disliked the storyline but liked the soundtrack.

The question was about 'bands' so I thought single artists were excluded.

But I guess each single artist must have a band for this to work.

Hopefully you were lucky to watch some great shows at the Hollywood Sportatorium before it was torn down in the early 90's.

1/4 mile drag strip , Hollywood Speedway was right next door and also got torn down, now it's all houses and the Sportatorium is now a Sedanos Supermarket.
