Anyone remember continuous hand drying towels in public restrooms?

If you are the one buying the paper towels, and you watch so many pulling off five towels to dry their hands, you will quickly understand why blow dryers exist.
That's like the people at Chipotle who pick up a stack of napkins four inches thick before they go sit down...

Somehow the subject with my 15 year old was of sanitation when drying hands. But when I was younger, I remember when a lot of places would have this mechanism with a captive cloth towel that was pulled down. I don't know exactly what it was supposed to do when it recirculated, but I would hope that it would somehow dry it some way. What I remember most about them was that they were often wet. I'm sure that they were supposed to be serviced regularly, but a wet towel would seem to be a breeding ground for assorted stuff.

Yep.

I remember these and never touched them.

I believe Kmart had them for a few years.

I remember them well. They worked pretty good. Better than those darn things that blow jet air.

My dad had one in his gas station. I clearly remember the sound it made when being used.

Memories of HS auto shop class, along with the half round, foot actuated sink with powdered soap....
I'm sure they're still quite common in factories, machine shops, etc. At my last job, there was one in the "lab" of the R&D/Engineering building I was in. It wasn't really a "lab" as it had machining equipment, test benches, etc. These sinks were great, except for the "soap" they used - it was the real gritty, dry-your-skin powder soap ! It got your hands clean though !

1. I remember!!!
2. If you want to be all intellectual and sociology about it----a true sign of a "high-trust society," Everyone trusted that other peeps would thoroughly wash their hands w/soap and water versus the quick splash. **or** everyone was just naive about it. I dunno.

PS, paper towels are better than the air blowers, even the modern high-speed blowers that get their air from an outside duct.. Lots of germs in bathroom air....but I survive each time, lmao.

They were always wet and gross. the previous user would never pull a clean sheet down for the next guy.

Was in the Zurich Airport a few years ago. What a beautiful place.

Maybe I am different, but I wash my hands before using the blow dryer. So, my theory is a am blowing moisture around when I use the blow dryer.

That is how it is supposed to work. If everyone thoroughly washed their hands before using an air hand dryer, then it wouldn't be blowing germs around the bathroom quite as much. But I don't know how many times I've seen men run their hands under the water for no mare than 0.2 seconds, use no soap, and then use the air hand dryer. Yuck!!!

I was at the Amsterdam airport a couple years back. I feel like I missed out because I didn’t see it haha.

Just went through Schipol twice last month and only saw paper towels and blowers.

I dont even want to get into the basement bathrooms with no windows or fans in the RAI convention center.
