Hey all.. have a 1995 neon, ATX. About 2 months ago, my headgasket went. I used a product called K&W nantechnology..its suposed too fill in the bad areas, not just cover it up. works really good! Well, for about a wek, i had driven the car, and on 16 miles trips, to and from work, was burning about half a gallon of coolant. 3 spark plugs had red residue on them, and the 4th cylinder was squeeky clean.
Thier was and is no coolant visable in the oil, at least on the dipstick. But obviously, coolant was burning through the combustion chamber rather quickly..Im using quaker state synthetic, 10w30, the old stock stuff before it was re badged. I am getting the headgasket job next week... but wanted to know..since im aking to do an oil change: P would it be advisable or necessary right now to change out the oil, even though it runs fine and theirs no milksahke or coolant in it? or coould i jsut go ahead and run it till next oil change?

For the record..when i say burning a gallon of coolant, 16 miles over a week...i mean EVRDAY for a week, it was burning half a gallon....

I know about after it gets fixed..i as a little concerend about wether or not, for the past 4 months now, is it possible coolant could have gotten into the oil, even thuogh its not visible to the eye? You know, at the 'bottom' of the oil pan or something? Or is it most likely the coolant was burnt out the tailpipe?

Just curious, did the K&W stuff work for stopping the leak?

And yes, change out the oil with whatevers on sale to hold you over for the headgasket job. As long as your getting it done soon.

Yes, coolant is getting into the oil. Even if its just leaking into the cylinders, some coolant is getting past the rings when its off. You can have dangerous levels of coolant and not see it. You will not see a couple % antifreeze in the oil and that will do damage.
Heck, my dads truck I discovered had a bad head gasket after the oil level was going up on the stick. It had Mobil 1 5W30 and I pulled the drain plug and got about a gallon of coolant before the oil came out. That oil was black, I might add, not milkshake. It was just separating overnight before I checked it.

Bustenutz..yes it did work. The leak has completely stopped. I open and check my coolant cap once a week..thier is some copper flakes floating around, that dint come out when drained, and green coolant. I used this stuff 2 years ago, same prob..i got about ayear out if. Happend a 2nd time, used this K&W stuff, and got about 7 months out of it. It does work, but not as advertised..bottle advertises PERMANENT fix.
WOW onmo...thast a [censored] of a horror story thier!

Anytime there is a POSSIBILITY that coolant got into the oil, change it out. Even do a couple of short 'flush' runs to make sure no residue is left in the oiling system.....coolant+oil = bad, bad ju-ju!

Change the oil right after the fix.
And change it and the filter sooner than your normal OCI after this type of repair.
AFter that, continue normally.
