Baldwin Junk!!

Thats what a customer just said when I gave him a B31 Baldwin oil filter to install on his 2005 Chev Colorado.Mind you I'm dealing with a 76 year old codger, who is right cheezed after he cut open an A.C Delco PF46 and found the inside of the can covered with about an inch wide RUST belt around the interior of the Delco.So he looks inside the Baldwin I just gave him and sees the "short tube" of the center tube.I don't want this junk either,says he,the tube doesn't come to the bottom of the base...whats holding the thing together..the paper...OH-BOY!He said forget about the Baldwin and he's going back to the dealer with the A.C Delco oil filter to raise heck about the rust inside the thing...may-be get a refund...both these filters range around $12 Can.so they are not cheap.I use the Baldwin B2 and their air filters because I like the way they look and feel, but this "short tube" design on certain oil filters is not giving them a good reputation IMO

I was very disappointed when I saw this "short tube" problem. Although I was very pleased with the way Balwdin handled customer service, nonetheless my common sense would not allow running such a filter on a vehicle under warranty.

It is really too bad, because otherwise they seem like excellent units.

FWIW, Balwdin told me the B31 is a "nominal" 20 micron filter, so that seems to place it right in the pack of good flow/good filtering, er, filters....

I took them back to the distribuator and cancelled another order of those certain filters.I have MY reputation to keep also...got Napa Golds on order.

thats what i thought you guys meant, sort of like the new purolators. the ones i recieved have full length center tubes, sweet

i just recieved a six pack of baldwins and cant figure out what you guys mean..what exactly is this short tube problem?

Look in the threaded filter opening. If the center tube goes all the way from the base plate with the threaded hole in it to the far end of the filter element, you don't have the problem. If it doesn't go all the way, and you see a length of filter element that is not supported by the center tube, you do have the problem.
