Feel like an idiot but depth perception, lunacy or distraction or other, it happened. Barely moving but a thud. Didn't appear to do any damage but to my pride.

That is great and your opportunity to just let it go. Me...i would have high BP. For a week and heart palpitations and I would be cursing myself...sad but true.

I know how you feel. I found the picture from when I was 17, my grandma had a narrow brick walled driveway and I backed in crooked and scraped up my 96' C1500.
As I got older my depth perception went away, like all the way gone. So out of caution I inch into a parking space, know that I'm going to hit the wall or car in front of me, put it in park, get out and see I'm still 4' away. Glad you didn't do any damage.

Modern day video camera parking systems make you wonder how you ever parked a car without one.
Don’t feel too bad, I backed into a telephone pole in my 300.
Both my Jeep and Toyota have backup cameras. And it's amazing how you get used to the convenience of having and using them. My truck not only doesn't have a camera, but it also has a camper shell and tinted rear windows.
It's no problem backing out of the garage, but I find myself looking for parking that I don't have to back out of, because I can't see or judge crap behind me when I'm backing up.

Yep, I also pick parking spaces that are easy to get out of.
I just kinda did the same thing, backed into the car ramp after a oil and transmission fluid change..... no damage... Still im usually on point, but im noticing the "koups" visibility is not that good out the rear/side windows, and in parking spots and things like that it takes alot of looking to verify the areas are clear.. So now, i pick different parking spots, usually further down the parking lot where there's less cars and where I can just pull out and go without backing up..
been there done that, it happens. heck just last week on my way to work, still dark out a deer kind of came out of nowhere. i locked up the brakes but still managed to hit the thing, deer took off but left me with some damage body shop says around 800 -1000
I've backed my trailer into the garage before. I was just glad the windows on the Jeep didn't hit anything substantial and break.
Backup sensors or camera install time.

Oh Deer.
I once backed my Saturn into a rock at the corner of my apartment's parking lot. Saw a shiny spot on the muffler where it hit, but it didn't seem to cause any damage. Many moons later I was buying new tires, and the shop said they couldn't align the right rear because the lower control arm was bent. Didn't put 2 and 2 together until they showed me what they were talking about. Oh.... I think I might know how the control arm was bent.
