It’s been 6 years since we’ve taken an extensive Route 66 road trip, so we remedied that by just finishing up an 11 day road trip. We took our 6
Year old grandson this time.
The Corolla did a fine job on the trip:
*3,901.8 miles
*109.498 gallons used
*35.6 miles per gallon

It also turned over the 100,000 mile mark in Illinois. Here are a few pics from the week:

Ever Stay at the Best Western Route 66 Rail Haven in Springfield, Mo?
I've never taken the 66 trip myself, but that place was my overnight stop when we used to go visit my brother in Dallas (before he moved back home)
it's a little more than half way, (10hrs from here, 6 hrs from DFW) but I liked it.

there were ALWAYS Brits staying there who were doing the Rt.66 Trip.
in fact a coupe of 'em ended up moving to Springfield, and have a Successful Cornish Pasty Food Truck just up the road(and a second location in one of the Malls.)
I always had to eat there if I got into town before they closed up.

Looks like good ole American fun!

What a great adventure to take your Grandson on! Long after the newest toys and video games are forgotten, this will remain. These will be memories that'll last a lifetime.

Love it. Bought my 300CD out in LA specifically to do a Route 66 trip back. Did all the good stuff along the way, and stayed in Holbrook, Tucumcari, and a few other spots. Diverged at St Louis as I recall, so we do need to do another trip. We stayed on 66 as much as possible. Makes for a slower trip but lots of interesting stuff to see.
