I just turned 26 years old and I am single. Sure I casually date sometimes but I'm cautious about relationships...VERY cautious and for good reason. Why enter one unless I absolutely want to? In my experience once I enter into a relationship everything goes downhill. I've had long term girlfriends in the past. However I am not even sure I want to ever get married. Perhaps I meet the right girl down the road and I want to marry...but even then I like my freedom and living to my own goals. When did the world decide that was selfish?

I tell my family all the time that I'm happy being single and I put no pressure on myself about this stuff. However some of the family (grandparents especially) always seem to need to have "talks" with me about my "condition" of single-hood. What gives...I want to tell them to lay off. I know they care about me and love me but no matter what I tell them they always assume I'm some miserable single man. My older siblings have married off and now they have moved onto the next patient...me

Am I alone in this?

You have plenty of time my friend, as a good one of mine just found the love of his life at 40...

Take life as it goes!

I got married in my early 20s, but I never regret it!

Everyone is different...

They want to see grand grand-kids. That is funny, my Dad were saying "no kids til that time, bla bla bla", now he is actually interested
smile.gif

Just turned 25, I've met my sunshine about a year ago, I feel "she is the one" I was looking for, getting married this fall.
Good luck man, you will find "that one" especially when you expect it the least and not searching for her.

Everyone is different. Some people are serial daters, others could care less. I've been with my girl for over a year now and we plan on getting married next year. I wasn't looking for it, it just kind of happened. I was a single guy in college having a blast
wink.gif
, then I found this girl that I thought would just end up another girl to have fun with and things evolved to something drastically different. However, before then any girl I would even consider dating was someone I would have to consider a future with, all of those relationships failed. When I decided to throw caution to the wind and just live in the moment and have fun I happened to stumble across someone who is truly my best friend and someone who I couldn't imagine not having in my life.

The important thing in life and relationships is to not look for one. If you're looking for one then you will settle and you won't be happy. It's almost inevitable. You have to live your life in a manner that makes you happy. If you're doing that then you're living life the right way. Just let your grandparents know that you're enjoying your life and only the future will tell whether or not you end up with someone.

Moral of the story; have fun and be honest with yourself.

I have been married for 16 years, my best friend is single and always has been. I cannot tell you how envious I am of his lifestyle.

Next time you see someone in your family that is a little overweight sit them down and have a "little talk". They may get the point, its your $^%# life!

Bless your heart for staying single. Why buy a cow when you can get the milk for free

Oh man does this thread hit close to home. Single guy, 28 years old with no obligations.

Most of my friends are married (some are divorced and even re-married). Some even have kids. My younger brother got engaged earlier this year as well.

Definitely been sat down by my parents before for those talks. Not sure what the big deal is, as my father wasn't even married until he was 29. I guess they just expect me to be in some long-term relationship by now and to be bringing some nice girl over for dinner and awkward introductions. Apparently there is some life-plan that my parents have dreamt up that I need to adhere to.

Honestly, I'm going to live my life as an adult however I want.

tl;dr:
my face when my parents and other people ask why I'm not married yet.

I'm 30 and single as can be. Currently FAR too busy for a gf, but I try to get out and get some when I can. Picking up the pieces and steamrolling thru 2 years worth of goals and plans in 1 is a bit hard (playing catch-up from what my ex gf kept me from doing last year), but dammit - I'm gonna do it!

Live life how you want. My biggest fear of marriage is some [censored] that can take half (or more) of everything I've ever worked for. Seen it happen with FAR too many of my friends. Just not worth it. I'm not the jealous type, I'd be ecstatic with a fwb that has no obligations to me, and vice-versa. Somebody to enjoy eachothers company in between our busy schedules, and whomever else we happen to meet along the way.

Hello, Do grab the bull by the horns and DO THE HARD THING. Learn (dirty word for some, I know) about pre-nuptials before you wed. Do yourself a HUGE favor in the meantime. Get and keep yourself in good shape. You won't get sick as much and you'll stay WAY MORE attractive. I won't address the attributes of Mr/Miss Right-Adequate-OK or how to detect that person. It's too specifically tailored a process. Don't ever marry an air head even if you are one. In a case like that you'd be better off single. Marriage as an escape is moribund. Kids "holding a bad marriage together" is garbage. Kira

Just tell them you haven't been fortunate enough to meet the right one yet.

"I just want what you have Grandpa, and it will take a special woman like Grandma" (said within Grandma's hearing)

I met my wife when I was in my very early 20s. I was standing in the street, saw her, and knew right then and there I was going to marry her. I broke up with my long term exgf/Fwb of five years two days later. We said goodbye one morning as she was leaving and only I knew it was actually goodbye.

The girl I saw? Turned out to be barely legal...and illegal in the majority of the country actually. Who knew.

Its been quite a few years now, she still drives me absolutely crazy.

Do I miss the single life, I miss turning down a few threesomes between my harem of friends who were girls.

I had more than my share of fun...and there is nothing that could get me to go.back to my lecherous ways.

My wife and I literally do everything together, and haven't spent more than 10 hours apart in the last...five or six years. Crazy considering there is no other person on the planet I can tolerate for more than a few hours.

Ignore the negative nancies, marry smart, marry with the knowledge it will sometimes be work, marry for love, and marry once.

Also if a woman tries to pick out her wedding ring or engagement ring...run for the [censored] hills. If her ring has to cost a certain amount, run.

In short, you're not too old to be single...but trust me, no amount of sluts, drunken adventures, or nights out with the boys can compare at all to just waking up next to that special person.

Call me sappy, when you're as big, gruff, and hairy as I am you get used to saying that you wish.

Any male who marries anyone except a rich widow or heiress is a fool. It is that simple. You have a greater than 50% chance of getting reamed.

You have plenty of time. I was 32 when I got married.

Went through a series of women who were high pressure. Major events during that time: I turned down two marriage proposals, an invitation to shack up and broke off an engagement before I found the right person.

We dated two years and have been married 19. You will know when the time is right.

Been there my friend. I am now 45 and still single( THANK GOD! ).

Luckily people have finally realized I just do not want to get married EVER! In my 20's and even 30's though the female members of my family and some friends were relentless. My Mother and Aunt( Mother's side )were especially bad. Got to the point it literally made me angry they wouldn't lay off which lead to a couple big blow ups about it.

Got to say I don't see why any man wants to get married these days though? That isn't a slam against marriage either. I am not against it even though it is not for me. I am talking about the huge risk men take getting married or even living together for any period of time. You put your financial future at risk and even your physical future( jail )by getting married. Some may think I am crazy, and that is ok, but after what I have seen in the last 10 years, and especially with a friend over the last 3, if a woman ever mentioned marriage to me I would run as far away from her, screaming, as fast as I could.

The relationship laws are so bias in favor of the women in this country it is not funny. The man can be the best husband that has ever lived and it won't matter. The courts will award the women everything( kids, money, property, etc... )and if you don't or can't pay they will take it or throw you in jail. Every lie and dirty trick imaginable will be used against you and the court will go along with it all blindly as well. You don't even have to be married as common law and palimony can still get you if you lived together for long enough.

One of my very best friends from childhood is currently gone and I don't even know where? Haven't seen him or heard from him in a year and may never again.
mad.gif
All I know is he was forced to flee to save himself from the biased divorce system in this country. His evil, lying, gold digging wife took him to the cleaners and then some. Just no way to pay what the biased, corrupt, divorce system says he had to or go to jail for a LONG time. The amounts were adding up so fast and went so high there was no way he could ever pay them, or even got caught up, after he was drained by the legal battle and she got all the rest.

His ex used everything from bogus restraining orders SHE purposely caused him to violate so she could have him arrested( so she could use that against him - Judge fell for it again and again even with video evidence SHE caused it )to outright lies in court( proved to be lies AGAIN - Judge didn't care AGAIN ). He never abused her or the kids and was a model husband while she cheated( was proved )and was abusive both physically and mentally to him and the kids. She got EVERYTHING though.

I am sorry for the rant but any young man even thinking about getting married better be darn sure before doing it. I am not saying all women are evil but there are a lot of gold diggers out there. If a woman decides she doesn't want to be married to you anymore she can get anything she wants with the courts help regardless if you were a good husband or not. The laws are so tipped in favor of the women it is scary. You will lose it all and be paying her forever.

If you can't, or won't, pay the outrageous amounts of money the court says you will have to pay, and do so in the very short time they will give you( lump sums in just days even if you just hear about the amount and don't have it ), be prepared to spend a lot of time in jail. Be prepared for bogus claims of abuse and/or restraining orders that she will make sure you break to use against you that will result in a criminal record that will further screw you over the rest of your life.

I have seen all the above in cases other then the mentioned friend as well. He is just the most recent. I have seen exactly 2 amicable divorces. Other than that the guy is screwed royally. No way I would ever get married in today's world. Just wouldn't risk it. Not even if the woman signed rights away and signed a pre-nuptial. The courts ignore all that and it means NOTHING. Signed forms will not save you from the [censored] that is divorce for a man in the USA.

DON'T DO IT! RUN AWAY!

Whoa, I remember seeing a girl named brandy from louisana. she told me about a five yr relationship went sour, her ex boyfriend dumped her for barely legal 18 yr old girl. She has one 4 yr old son by him at the time. Gosh, this was 1997 or so. She had move out of LA into her parents home in Birmingham, AL where I met her
