Baby it’s cold outside!

First real cold snap and boy do I miss my remote start.... hows winter been for the rest of you guys? Also, do you let your car warm up when it's this cold for a little bit or do you just get in and drive? I generally wait for the coolant to get around 140F, which puts the oil around 40F, before I go when it's cold like this. Takes 4-5 minutes, but that's enough heat for defrost to work.

-15F this morning. Supposed to be a high of 2F today. Next week is supposed to be worse. Expected high next Wednesday is forecast to be -11F. These are air temps not wind chill. My car is in unheated attached garage that is usually 10 to 15 degrees warmer than outside. I start my car let it come down off high idle which usually takes a minute or two and then drive off. It has remote start but never use it. Love the seat heaters though. Mobil 1 5w30 has never let me down.

This time of year I plug in the block heater in the Caravan and use one of those windshield covers to reduce the amount of ice and snow I need to clear in the morning. Block heater allows for the defroster to work better and I can get heat inside after 2-3 mins. I have the block heater to come on 45 mins before I leave in the morning. It was brutally cold last weekend.

It's 39F on my outdoor thermometer now. About 30 degrees too cold! Headed for a high of around 72F today.

It's 2 degrees here right now and I leave from a 52 degree heated garage and drive to work. Off at 1:00 today and will do a 15 minute auto start before
getting in the car. Anytime its below about 32 degrees I always use my auto start on the Honda Civic and let it warm up. It's worth the small amount of gas to have the comfort of a warm car.

I am sure I read this right, you have remote start but do not use it? you're crazy! That is so brutal cold weather.

I always wait until the temp gauge begins to move before I drive off.

Sitting here looking at the thermometer and it says -9. I also never use my remote start, and both my cars sit outside. My wife's sits in a heated garage, so she doesn't use hers either. Just a waste of gas IMHO.

Depends. If I'm home and it's below about 10F, I will run out and start my car. 5 to 10 minute idle time, maybe. This is actually a good thing if it's iced over--yes, I own an ice scraper, and use it plenty, but there are times that the ice is just simply too thick to easily get off. A few minutes of warming up does wonders.

Now if I'm at work, it could be -20F. And it won't matter, I'm hopping in and driving off!

-8F in my little slice of heaven this morning. No remote start and my DD sits outside. It was not happy this morning, but started. I think I was 3/4 of the way into my 15-mile drive to work before the rear window finally fully defrosted.

I only let the car idle for a minute or so, but I drove very gently until the coolant gauge started to move, and even then I tried to take it easy on the car for the rest of the trip.

Only -9F in the wasteland here. Don't have remote start on the DD. Stared up no problem. Idle time was 12 minutes. Next week will be more fun.

First world problem of the day was my seat warmers don't heat up the seat very well. This car also doesn't have steering wheel heat, so I had to drive with my gloves on.

I just start it up, set up the stereo, put on my seat belt, look around and then just go. Seat heaters take a minute to warm up and then they get toasty which is nice, never cared about it in the past but it's nice when you have it. I just drive off slowly and take it a little easy, but the highway is about a minute from my house so I just give it a steady throttle til it gets up to speed, it doesn't take long to warm up once you get going.
