B&S 8hp Easy spin

I have been given a small ride on mower with an 8hp Briggs engine, I was told it hasn't run for several years. It had spark and gas but no compression. I removed the head and discovered the exhaust valve had pulled out it's valve seat. (the seat was loose and hung up on the valve stem)
I pushed the seat back into the block, and peened the block alloy to retain the seat 'ring' However turning the flywheel by hand still does not produce ANY compression!
Is this a feature of the Easy Spin starting?

Did you check the valve clearance? You want .008" on the intake and .010" on the exhaust. To bypass the EZ-spin, turn the flywheel opposite the normal rotation. You should feel good compression. If you not, the seat is not square, you need a valve job or the rings could be shot. Did it have a ridge at the top of the cylinder?

Yes, it opens the intake valve a little bit during cranking.

It would be almost impossible to get that valve seat back in place and have it seal without re-grinding the seat. Bare minimum would be to "lap" it using valve lapping compound and one of those little suction cup tools made for the purpose.
