B@S 6.75 hp oil

A friend just recently gave me a Craftsman push mower with the 6.75 hp B@S engine.It seems to be fairly new (about 2-3 yrs old).I have a quart of Coastal HD-40 oil on the shelf; would this be an ok oil to run in this engine?

I don't know for sure; but don't the instructions normally call for 30 weight or 10w30?

This summer I am having good luck with Quaker State Synthetic 10w30. My old mower has better power with synthetic and 93 gas.

I have a 2001 Honda mower. I put in amsoil 10w30 in 2001 and have not changed it since. The mower gets used about 6x time a year for about 1 hr. I just used it last night, looked at the oil and its looking like the day it came out of the bottle. Should be good for a few more years. LOL

btw-Very good mower, starts on first pull even time and I don't even drain the gas over the winter. Leave it be and don't fool with it is my motto.

I have two mowers with Honda engines. A Craftsman with a Honda OHC and a Honda Masters with a Honda OHV. Both start on the first pull, just set the choke and go. They're the easiest starting engines I think I've had on OPE. The aluminum bore OHC engine would soil the oil with some metal shavings during the first few oil changes (I changed after every mowing for the first month). Now I change it twice a season, and the end and in the middle.

As for the B&S engine, I would think 40W would be okay, especially if you're in a real hot area.
