awful motor oil prices

Just keep looking gents. MaxLife is still a bargain at WM in the 5 quart jugs. Tractor Supply Co is closing out Chevron Supreme in 5 quart jugs for 7.49 . And those with stashes can now puff out our chests and pound them. The Havoline deals at AAP are now showing their worth.. syn blend and HM was .33 a quart, full syn was .79 . Those days are gone forever, but the memory lives on....

Gas hit 2.25/gal here (Indianapolis) today and is dropping faster than the stock market.
I use a LOT more gas than motor oil so I'm loving it.

wait a minute.......
where are all those Amsoil salesmen who said Mobil 1 was Group 3?
how could a PAO shortage affect Mobil 1?
/sarc off

Or maybe it's a ploy by Mobil to raise prices again...due to "shortage". They have to pay their NASCAR bill, you know.

While Mobil bashing seems to be a BITOG sport, other companies in the Beaumont area are having the same problems.

For example, Dupont has announced restricted supplies on several chemicals that they make in the Houston area.

It could be worse: They could be a sponsor, like Blackstone and STILL get bashed.....

I hate you! J/K. Gas in CA is still $3.25 a gallon, that's what we should be paying. Like someone already said, do your syn oil changes youself and save $$$$.

I infact bought a 3 ton Craftsman floor jack, with a matching set of jack stands and creeper for $150 last month. It will take me about 6 oil changes to break even but nothing better than doing it yourself.

thanks for the info Mr Gold. Missed that thread. Guess WMT will welcome me returning the 60 qt stash of M1 5-30 and 5-30 EP?
in stages, of course

Regular prices have become bad, and sales are fewer and farther between. But if you keep a look out, they are still there.

Recently, W-M in Canada were clearancing jugs of YB for $9, then they had jugs of QS GB for $8.98, and PP jugs for $19.92.

I missed ALL those, but still managed to get Motomaster Formula 1 dino for $9.99/jug. Still not a bad score.

My personal stategic oil reserve is good for about 100,000 miles (just under two years). I can still get Mobil Clean 7500 for $.95 a quart - should I get another 12 or 18 quarts (I have 76 qts.)?

Autozone has had some very good oil change specials lately. Got 5 Qts. Maxlife and a Fram Tough Guard oil filter for $18. They have Castrol specials now. Also picked up a 5 Qt. jug at Wal-mart for $13.

Looks like I have about 5+ years worth of stash. Mostly gotten at $2 a quart (Maxlife Blend) and $3 a quart (Maxlife Synthetic).

So you base your OCI on the price of oil?

We're just as wasteful as anyone else, if something is cheap, then waste it. But it's really the oligarchy and the corporate master that dictate how wasteful we are to be as a society. Which goes right back to globalisation decisions made by Reagan and Thatcher, which are now coming home to roost - depression and stock market crash, falling wages, no health care, foreclosures. Their policies were strictly to benefit the wealthy. Instead of the wealth "trickling down", it stayed up top, and was hoarded in off shore accounts. And so now we fret about our motor oil budget. Thanks Reagan, thanks Maggie.

it seems we have a resident socialist (at best) on board. Welcome comrade!

I haven't read that kind of revisionist puke since reading the Daily Kos. Reagan? Thatcher? Come on. Of course Barney Fraud, Chris Dodd and the socialists in the US congress had no hand in geting companies to make loans to people who didnt really qualify or could afford a home. But what the heck? Home ownership is a right. LOL

Does "from each according to their ability, to each according to their need" sound good to you?

I thought so.

While mistakes have been made, and greed has reared it's ugly head to often, you don't throw the baby out with the bath water. You make adjustments and keep moving forward.

BTW if "bottom up" economics is the way to go, wouldn't Mexico, Kenya, North Korea and the like be a great place to live? LOL

The socialists and communists see an opening and may get their way. You think the US has problems now? Just wait...Unless you are the type to expect something for nothing.

Maybe the government will subsidize your oil changes? Maybe even give them to you for free...actually paid for by someone elses sweat..but in your mind that is still free. I am sure the USSR had great choices in oil and filter selections. I seem to remember the high quality goods and services the "govenment" provided it's people.

Heck I hear your healthcare system in Canada is tops. Bwahaaaaaa

Take a hike

Did BITOG repeal the banning of Political discourse on this board? I have seen gads of threads that have turned political lately.

(I will say that I agree with Tenderloin though)

I'm glad I jumped on that Advance Auto deal they held a month ago. I got 5qts of Pennzoil 5-30 and a Purolator filter for $10 after rebate. My next oil change is covered.
