Avis mystery car rental-ugghh

I will try to rent a Tesla on this next Atlanta trip. That way I can accurately "time" my Atlanta to FL run. A nominal 8 hours for me when driven without traffic.

Are you self-employed? If not, have your company absorb the extra charges. My supervisor has a $500 per hour policy for our time. If we save over $500 per hour than we have to take the connecting flight or longer layover.

Part of me thinks you're afraid that you'll love the Tesla. LOL
I have heard nothing but great things about TSLA vehicles, and I am fascinated by Elon Musk.

There are many, many things I love or might love that I know better than to sample or buy....... like a high school girl I barely knew that wanted to friend me on Facebook last week. Couldn't press that delete button on Facebook quick enough.

When I retire from my current job in less than a year, my next job might be static and a match for an EV. I have nothing against EVs whatsoever, just wish they were part of the free market, and sold to Buyers with true expectation management.

Last month I saw a TSLA towing a super small trailer on I80 in Wyoming going 45 MPH, and I can tell you the driver was wetting his pants hoping he could get to a charge station as a trailer and the grade changes on I80 in Wyoming most likely was draining his battery quicker than Jeff Bezo's new Wife is draining his checking account.

Too get an EV rental on a jam packed out of state business trip with a lot of different places to go is not something I would wish for.

Once bitten, twice shy. If you get the Tesla, try and enjoy it. Hopefully charging won't be too big of a hassle.
Earlier this year a car rental place offered me a Model 3; I told them I have one at home and like to rent other cars as a test. Our recent experience was a Mazda 3 sedan was an eye opener. Great car!

I would have the Avis people walk out to the car with you while you take a picture of the charge. Did that last time I rented a U-haul and the paperwork I was supposed to sign said the tank was full. Before I signed, I personally checked that gas gauge and got photos with the attendee right there. Brought it back with the same level as fuel as when I departed. No issues, what so ever....

rented with avis in san Diego last week. was a cluster. they didn't want to honor original price, had to fight them over it and still didn't get all the way there. rented a Honda cr-v, and it was a terrible car. no power and terrible cvt. will not be using them again and wont rent a cr-v again. rented a Passat a few years ago and that was a very nice car.

I'd be annoyed at having to register and create an account to recharge the car. Who's got time for all that?
Have you downloaded other APPs and set up an account? Uber, McDonalds, Club Warehouses-it takes less than 10 minutes-even entering in all your CC information.

I am on a static but very full and tight schedule. I likely rent 100+ rental cars annually, didn't plan on learning a new system with constraints and limitations over a ICE, which I wrongly assumed I would continue to receive as a rental.

I'd explain exactly that to Avis. Make it clear that a Tesla rental is unexpected and is unacceptable for your needs... and expect to pay more per day for a different rental.

Actually, I haven't; my phone belongs to my employer and I might not have the same phone next week. But that's not the point. I shouldn't have to spend the time enrolling at Tesla Inc. and I'm not interested in setting up an account with them.

You corporate creatures sure do a whole lot of this.

So actually-if you haven't done it-you don't know what you are talking about. THAT'S THE POINT.

Working in San Antonio for a few days. Avis "mystery car" rental was the cheapest option.

Just received notification from Avis the mystery car is a TSLA model 3. Not happy🍩😲. Now I have to plan for when and where to fuel, something I have never ever had to do while using rental cars in San Antonio before.

I imagine the mystery car is a car that Avis has excess of at any location.....
I'd be looking for another rental place to get something ICE, I would refuse the car. We recently booked a car for an upcoming trip to SC in October, I made sure it was an ICE car. Four of us are going and we don't need the hassle.

See if you can rent a Mazda 3 instead. You'd probably be much happier with that. Traveling can be such a pain/drain sometimes and you don't need another annoyance.

I'd tell Avis to pound sand. Unfortunately you can't do like the old discount tire commercial "If you don't like it just bring it back."

This is a great thread .Somebody complaining about what is probably a break though automobile of the last 100 years. A vehicle that's extremely popular. There are a ton of them around Salt Lake City. And you can't even take delivery of a new one in the state. You have to go to Nevada.
