Avast 4.8

The new Avast is out. Now has certified spyware/adware detection, rootkit detection, self termination protection (malware can not shut it down) and tested very well at avcomparatives.org.

Haven't tried it yet but I may. AVG looks like they may do away with the free antivirus - they ARE getting rid of the antispyware. Everything is being incorporated into AVG8 which you have to pay for. So Avast looks like the BOMB - and it's 100% free.

I've used Avast exclusively for the past year or so... no complaints and the updates come for the most part daily or every few days.

Thanks for telling me about Avast! 4.8. I upgraded it. I use Avast! on Windows XP on my iMac. Nice little antivirus.

Thanks I just substitute it with norton 2003 and at first scan has found 2 trojan and one worm that AVG and norton did not find.

Now the computer seems going much better I was willing to format it becouse was totally stacked

Can you set Avast to scan on write only?

They are lumping both the antivirus and the antispyware into version 8 with no separate antivirus or antispyware. And you have to pay for AVG 8 as it is a total suite.

If anyone is interested there is now a free AVG 8.0 that they just released. I haven't tried it yet, but I have downloaded it. I have been running Free 7.5 on my Vista laptop with good results. I will probably try 8.0 this weekend.

I am running AVG free version 8.0.100 in Vista 64 bit version.

Have used the free version without issue for several years when running Windows.
