Use Opera for browser, Avast for anti virus, and ZA free for firewall, all will be free, safe and sound.

I found Windows defender to be useless as it has never found a peice of spyware. where as spybot and adaware finds it after running defender.

I have avg and it has caught every virus so far (or that I know of lol).

I use a hardware NAT router, Windows Firewall, and the McAfee Enterprise that we use for work. I scan every couple weeks with Adaware and I have never had problems yet. The kids are getting old enough to start using the internet, so I have to start being a little more carefull.

Comodo Personal Firewall and Cisco VPN client don't like each other. Other than that single conflict, CMP has been a solid product!

I've been running SuSE 10.1 with VMWare Server (free) running Windows inside it for Windows things that I have to do. Namely, the Cisco VPN client (w/O CMP!

) to connect to my job. Once they get the Cisco VPN client for Linux released, I won't even need that anymore.

Another free product, a Partition Magic clone, GParted: http://www.linux.com/article.pl?sid=06/04/25/1917228 Link to downloadable ISO disk in the article.
