hello. just wondering if this was a good spark plug? or if i should just go the copper route? the ac delcos that are in it now have gone 101,000 miles. how long do you think autolite double platinums are good for?

Have been making a living using autolite spark plugs in all domestic cars and light truck for many years. The other techs and I really like auto light. NGK for the imports. There a few exceptions to that rule when only OEM plugs will do. Case in point is your GM automobile. I say go with the AC delco's. They are a very good plug. Some engines and ign systems are fussy about plug types. As some posts have stated in other threads, just using the "wrong" plug can cause missfires. We take them one at a time when they come into the shop. Most double platinum plugs that I have removed at the 70k to 100K range had an enlarged gap that was measurably worn and due for replacement. That is my experience regardless of manufacture.
I would argue Motorcraft puts out a better plug than Autolite.
I also like Motorcraft over Autolite.
But Autolite is a good solid plug.
Copper is in the core. You can have plain steel, or precious metal tipped plugs that are copper.
Does AC offer a plug in double plats for that car? It would be my first choice.

Motorcraft spark plugs are made by Autolite. They are made on the same exact production line. Only the part number on the plug and the packaging are different. My ex-wife used to work for Honeywell(Autolite parent company) and when she visited a plant, she confirmed with an engineer that they are the exact same plug.
FYI, AC Delco no longer manufacturers any of their own plugs. Some are made by NipponDenso while most are now made by NGK.

I replaced the oem champs at 73k miles in my wifes' 2000GC 3.3 with Autolite double platinums. At about 28k miles 2 of them started failing. Replaced them with the correct Champion double plats and at 137K they are still working fine.
BTW: The 4 good Autolites I removed from the GC are now in a 94 mopar 4 cylinder and they are doing just fine also...
Guess I got a couple of bad ones.

Yup. My "Delco" iridiums have NGK stamped on them.

Chryslers like their Champs. There's no 2 ways about it.
I had a 2001 Neon and it only ever saw champ coppers. never had an issue with any misfires, fuel economy, etc.

It is very possible that Motorcraft aftermarket parts are different from the factory Motorcraft parts. I've certainly seen quality differences between a factory part and an "OEM" replacement. I would not be surprised in the least if they are completely different supply chains. We see it with oil filters all the time too- a motorcraft or acdelco part looks different from the last one, and identical to some other brand name.
It happens all the time with name branded parts- like if you buy a small appliance at a big box store that has a "good" name on it. Like a Bell and Howell thermostat or a Honeywell humidifier- read the manual and the warranty statement will say "manufactured by L&M Importing". Even with the Kennmore air conditioner I bought recently- it is identical to an LG unit, and if you look inside, all the parts are LG.
(And the same thing with lots of other stuff- computer peripherals are great for it. Dell printers aren't made by dell. They are Lexmarks and Xerox units. Many HP printers are really Canon engines with HP plastics and software.)
There just aren't that many different manufacturers out there. The "brand" sources them from whoever gives them the best bid that meets specs. Or the "brand" just licenses their name.

Same casting on the metal, same shape of the ceramic, etc. That's not proof that ALL motorcraft parts are made by autolite, but its evidence that some are.

Maybe some still are. I know the OEM Motorcraft I took out of the Taurus look identical to the Autolite ones other than the marking.
