On March 25, 2013, I put a new Autocraft Silver battery (no Gold series were available) in my Ranger. Even though it is a fourth vehicle, it gets started and ran every couple of weeks. Went out last Sunday to start and nothing. Truck started fine with a boost. Had no more time to play with it last weekend. Went out last night and put a charger on it. After a couple of hours, still nothing. So then, I figure that it is a dead cell. Somewhat disconcerting that a decent quality battery can only cut a year, however, I understand that excrement occurs.
On the positive side, took it back to Advance, they verified the dead cell, gave me a refund on the old, and matched the on-line price and for some reason sold me the new one for a couple of dollars less than the first. (The deduction must be for the omission of the carrying strap AARGH!) The two year free return is now reset. Hope this one goes longer than the first.
IMO, Advance is still a pretty decent place to buy a car battery.
