Auto Zone - Rant

I recently bought some (Autolite) Spark Plugs at Auto Zone.
Along with the Receipt, I'm handed a (Auto Zone) Rebate Slip.
If I send it in to Auto Zone address, I receive a $10.00 Auto Zone Gift Card.
Sounds good until:

I see on RockAuto.com, if I purchased the same plugs, I would receive $15.00 from Autolite.
This would be using the Autolite Rebate.

I will be sending my purchase receipt to the Autolite address.

I wonder if Auto Zone is taking the mail-in Bar Codes and Receipts they receive
and then sending them to Autolite for their better deal.

Rant over.

Your thoughts on this.

I'd be looking at how much shipping from Rock Auto would be, as well as the price of the plugs themselves. Bet the In-store $10 looks bigger that way.

The Plugs on Rock Auto were alittle cheaper. Savings would have been equal to Shipping.

But what I'm getting at is this:
Although I already bought the Plugs at Auto Zone, where am I going to send in the Rebate Slip ? ? ?

Answer: Autolite for the $15.00

What is Auto Zone doing with all the Bar Codes they receive ? ? ?
I bet they made a deal with Autolite and get some kind of kick-back.

Will Autolite let you submit your AZ receipt directly to them for a $15 rebate?

Pretty smart on AZ's part I guess. They get $5, and you have to spend your $10 in an AZ store. Odds are people who get the gift card will either spend over $10 when they use it, or not use the full amount and leave some on the card.

There are so many complicated sales, promotions, rebates, BOGO's, and multi-angle deals all the time now that it's impossible to feel like you got a good price on anything anymore.

That way, I'll have no idea what the [censored] I paid, but still feel like I got a great deal !

Stick with Rock Auto.....the web page there is 28 IQ points higher than the Auto-zone counter guy............IMO..........

Eh, it's all economics. Zone is giving $5 credit for core batteries, the recycle yard around the corner is paying $10. You can always find a better price after you finish a transaction.

When you bought the plugs you probably could have asked them to print a second receipt for your "accountant" because this is a "company car". Then you could have sent in 2 rebates.

I read Auto Zones rebate offer again and it said they will accept a Copy of the Receipt.

So, I sent:
'original' receipt to Rock Auto
"copy' to Auto Zone.

I spent $42. for (6) plugs.
I should receive both rebates totaling $25.00
---------------------------------------------
42. - 25. = $17.00 for (6) Iridium Plugs

In my book, that's a good deal.

Why wouldn't he? He's playing the rules by the book submitting rebates to 2 different companies. What's wrong with that?
