Auto-RXing my TDI...observations so far

I've had auto-rx in my 01 TDI Golf for 1000 miles so far. I changed the filter today. Observing the filter there does not appear to be any sludge on it but there was something in there with particles about the size of grains of sand that I did not recall seeing on the previous oil change. The engine was at operating temperature, so I didn't see the waxy particles that people talk about.

The turbo also seems to be spooling easier than it was before, which makes me happy. Power seems to be up a little, and I've marked a 2mpg improvement in mpg over the 2 tanks I've run so far.

The previous owner(dunce) used Kendall 15w40(petrol) oil for the car's life, so I wanna get any gook from that out of the engine and switch her over permanently to either Rotella T 5w40 or Delvac1 5w40. I really havn't decided which yet, but either should do well at 10k intervals in this engine.

I'm planning on running the clean for 3-4k miles total. I'm not sure which yet. But there's gonna be another filter change in there somewhere again. From my experience and Frank's advice on my previous vehicle, there's not really anything stopping me from leaving it in there a long time.

I'm not really planning on running a second dose either, the car only has 50k miles on it. I'll just be switching over to a nice synthetic diesel oil like the original owner should have been using!

I'm a bit concerned about running dino oil in it because of the turbo. Wouldn't a GRPII oil be ok? I don't have any leaks either.

If it is a mineral HDEO, you DO NOT need to worry about using it in a turbo application!

I repeat, you DO NOT need to worry!

Mineral HDEO's offer great protection in turbo applications.
 
So right around the time I plan on changing the oil, I'll be going on a 1400+ mile road trip. Would this be a good time to run the rinse?

today I took off the oil cap to look inside. And instead of the usual blackness everywhere I could see bare metal pretty much everywhere! I think I may change the oil next week, as it looks as though the RX has done it's job(in 3k miles).

I havn't seen any D1 or M1 Truck and SUV around where I live, but I'll keep my eyes open.

I ran back to back Auto-RX cycles in my TDI with 54k miles. I used Delvac 1300 Super for both the cleaning and rinse cycles. Like you, I could see "stuff" in the filter after the first cleaning cycle. I didn't notice anything in the filter on the following cycles. I just ran my cycles to the mileage suggested on the Auto-RX website. After the Auto-RX, my oil analysis results look great with Delvac 1. You can see them posted in the used diesel oil analysis section.
 
Do you think 4-5k on the 15w40 would be a good idea? I'm thinking Delvac 1300S would be fine at this interval.

Well, after careful consideration, I changed my oil today. I filled in 4.5qt of Mobil1 Truck & Suv 5w40(aka D1) that I found at Wall Mart. I decided to skip the dino since the seals on my engine are intended to be run with and only with synthetic oils anyways. And the engine had no leaks in the first place, nor did it develop any on the 3k with RX.

But observations at change time indicated that the oil filter housing no longer has a coating of varnish on it, and looking down the oil fill hole(even though I fill through the oil filter) revealed a bunch of shiny bare metal. I'm very happy with the results. The turbo spools quickly, the engine seems more responsive. My fuel economy picked up an average of 2mpg. Looking at the second filter, it seemed to have a lot more grime on it than the one I changed 1500 miles ago.

It seems that using Synthetic oils causes the RX to take a longer time to work, but no mention was made by one of the Chemical's formulators about synthetic being unsuitable. The only main issues with running synthetic for a rinse would be the seals. And being designed to use synthetic oils from the factory, the TDI's seals should not have any problems with this.

4500 miles after the treatment with M1 Truck&Suv in her vanes, the engine is running as strong as ever! I havn't lost any oil that I can tell The dipstick still reads the same as it did when I filled it.

My mileage seems to have kept to the 2mpg increase, and my lifetime mileage average is increasing.

Sorry for digging up an old thread. Just wanted to update the progress on this. I changed the M1 5w40 at 7500 miles. Notes:

1> Oil did NOT have a diesel smell to it
2> No oil consumed in 7500 miles
3> Can still see shiny bare metal through the fill cap
4> No more varnish inside of oil filter compartment

I filled it back up with Rotella T 5w40 and 5oz of FP. We'll see how things go!

You mean FP in the fuel and are you using LC in the oil ?

Errr, Ya, oops. Yes, there is presently 6oz of FP in the tank and 5oz of LC in the oil.
