Ordered three bottles of Auto-Rx for the gf's Saturn(formerly mine)

Background.

Beater work car oil burner :-)

Was burning oil when I bought it with 107k on it and now has 167k on it. Have gone the Sea Foam route and B12 for cleaning it out(cylinder wise) and have even tried running Rotella 5w40 afterwards to clean it out further.

Doesnt much matter what you do to it, it likes to burn oil. When I wasted time on it, it amazingly had compression(good and even dont know exact numbers), so I know the oil condition was from guides and/or oil ring issues. I can promise its the oil rings due to the plugs and oil burning lol It occurs under load and not coasting down where it likes to suck it thru the guides.

It will be a 2 timer trial for the engine itself. Should be starting on it t'row, it went out on fri but fed-ex site is useless and refuses to load so I dont know where my Rx is lol

Second the Saturn auto trans tend to get some dirty valve body issues, and mine had exhibited some at past times and usually doing a fluid flush and the reverse against a light pole for an hr in reverse fixed it. Got to love GM fixes for stuff. So I will being doing the Rx for the trans as well.

I am not half baked nor half retarded and do not proclaim wonder cures, but I do keep my eyes and options open. Frank, Auto- Rx has a huge challenge with this car, I guess I would consider any improvement a win :-) If not I'm looking for the $$$$ back guarantee lol It was still 50 odd $$$ with 4th sale and discount coupon for 3 bottles.

If anyone wants to donate Auto-Rx or $$$ I will be as scientific as possible, I would be more, but only here for break from school, so time is not allowing much "scientific" testing.

You should not expect a miracle from any product. If an engine is worn too badly or if seals are damaged Auto-RX is not going to make that big of a difference.

I started to really believe in Auto-RX after the product seemed to stop a seal leak in a Saturn car I used to own. After I did 1 or 2 Auto-RX cleanings the seal leak stopped. Auto-RX may well stop a seal leak as long as the seal is not physically damaged. If there is physical damage to a seal you will have to have it replaced.

A badly worn engine will probably continue to burn oil regardless if you use Auto-RX or not. If the engine needs to be rebuilt or replaced there is not a whole lot anybody can do.

But if all an engine needs is some decent internal cleaning Auto-RX will do that. Terry, the oil analysist guy tested Auto-RX and said that it works. All kinds of people here at this website have said good stuff about it.

Now, if there was some excellent testing done that indicated that Auto-RX does not really work I would quite using it. I have not seen any such testing.

There was a guy at this website who was a mechanic and he sort of specialized in Toyota cars and trucks. He told a story abouthow a customer brought in a car or truck (can't remember which it was) with an engine so sludged up he didn't think he could repair it. He did an Auto-RX cleaning and the engine was saved. I have a tendency to believe good mechanics. My father was a mechanic. Sometimes mechanics can believe in silly things like the Pennzoil sludge myth, but usually mechanics are fairly knowledgeable.

Maybe Auto-RX will make a difference in this car. But if a car is too far gone nothing will probably help except rebuilding the engine or replacing the engine.

6 yr Jaguar Gold Dealer Tech.

Top of class WyoTech grad and Jaguar PACE

Plus I do all of my own tuning on my ecm's and almost all vehicle work except the actual machine work on the engine and paint on the body :-) (back in school currently to fix the machining part as well)

No ____ comes from me. Guess I will compression test it and give it a shot. Auto-Rx should be in t'row and I'm gonna beat it like a rented mule

As a many year RX user I'm still learning. This time I got the engine hot, I mean really hot as in a bit o'heated hot (pizza box blocking up to say 75% of radiator does that). Then I flogged it like never before which was all the easier with a new high flow cat and muffler and 100RON octane fuel in the tank along with a full bottle of Techron in the there for good measure. Now I see how I should have done earlier cleans. Anyway old car, new engine!!

It made it here

Tools at Fed-Ex/DHL put it in my mailbox? lol

Anyhow the assault should begin sometime this afternoon.

Fresh oil change and added 8oz.

2oz added to power steering

6oz added to trans.

It has begun, going to try and get a compression test on her t'row before the real fun starts. Should be interesting.

?????????? Cant edit anything I guess huh? Oh well.

Just wanted to add it was some quality Spectrum oil :-) 3 5w30 and roughly 1/2 a 10w30 to use up some old stock in the garage, so I didnt tap into the full case in the trunk yet.

Extra filter in the car. One case of Wally World oil 10w30 and their filter as well. Hopefully it will still be full for the rinse phase lol

Cleaned the pcv as well and hosed off as much of the engine as I could get too.

Cleaning a PVC valve only does so much good. Every now and again you need to replace it. Just because it rattles doesn't mean a thing.

lol

You've never dealt with an oil swilling first gen saturn before :-)

Everything is kept up to date and maintained, but when it fouls plugs and gums up pcv's in relatively low miles, you clean it out until the mileage is up every year or two to replace them :-)

180 or so miles on it now, seems to have an appetite for more oil than before. I got some supertech 20w50 to use as top off every other qrt if it stays bad to help slow it down some.

If it continues to burn/use oil, do I add Auto Rx to it in the 2oz to 1 qrt ratio for topoff or dont worry about it? What do u think Frank.

Also going to try and do a compression test on it t'row when I clean the plugs up also for comparison later in testing.

No earth shattering news to report :-)

Got about 400 miles on it so far. Havent done a compression test yet either, been to [censored] busy with other fun stuff like doing the tune on a friends TPI American Iron Firebird :-) (lots more fun)

Hoping on Wedns and get some numbers and again when its rinse time.

Real numbers for people.

Warmed car up until it was readin on temp guage(barely) and did the compression test w/ throttle wide open.

5 cranks
180 200 210 180

10cranks
180 210 220 200

Also cleaned all the plugs off real nice and neat, topped the oil off and cleaned the pcv out again to keep everything status quo.

Mileage on Auto Rx is at about 420 at time of testing.

We will see how it goes from here.

A former associate used to work for a company that made pistons for Saturns of that vintage.

I remember him mentioning something about the ring land design being borderline and that oil burning was virtually guaranteed on high mileage motors.

I posted this on another string re:Saturn

Thats normal in a Saturn until you have finished clean & rinse cycles all the dirt-contamiants coming from the ring packs were acting as seals (know that sounds good however when these false seals go so does your engine)when your done your final rinse and go back to just oil (using non synthetic) drive maybe up to 3000 miles (just like the Auto-Rx Application says) somewhere between 10 miles and 3000 miles oil burning will diminish or stop completely.

Pretty inexpensive way to stop your problem and if you follow application instructions you will be happy. Please post again.

Yeah, i've read stuff on the Saturn forums that was consistent with what you're saying. Because of their unique design, old Saturns tpically respond very well to 'piston soaks'-- moreso than other vehicles. (Unfortunately my car doesn't usually respond as well

)

V6TransAM, AutoRX is great stuff. And i'll always be a fan. But after you are fully finished with an ARX cycle you might also try a piston soak. ( AKA 'MMO soak' or 'Mola soak')

Good luck
