yep TallPaul is the man on this issue.

I was impressed with how far the drop "wicked" through the card.

Other than that, I'm lost.

Just do one once a week and watch the progression

Rinse phase at present, and still smokey under the same conditions, but volume appears reduced.

bit over 2,000km.

Could have been longer, but I had a big "maintenance day" just before going back to work, and wanted to pull used oil filters apart, look at rocker arms etc...you know how it goes.

sprintman, they didn't say 4,000 at the time that I started. Given the fuel consumption of the thing, I'm a little worried about dilution.

Spitty, I'll get to that one day, I'm sure. Just trying to size up all of the vehicle's issues, and work out how much it's worth spending on it.

Turns out that due to odo error, the 2,000 was closer to 3200.

Got an SAE 30 in it at present SG (well lawnmower oil actually). 1800 (indicated) km on it.

Smoke on over-run very heavily reduced.

Since installing the oil, used 1/2 quart of type 4 ATF in one tank, and when that was down to just under a half, added the other half quart and topped up.

When I bought the car, it knocked at 4000RPM in third full throttle, on 95RON....currently running 91-93 (regular), with no knocking.

It was probably heavy blow-by emissions in the BMW "under full vacuum" crankcase deal. Now you're probably getting less of it.

Really? It has straight-weight SAE30 in it now and the smoke is "reduced" but not eliminated. How much of the reduction is ARX and how much is the straight weight oil?

I'm not bashing ARX, it can only do so much, but how much did it really do in this case?

OP: Have you used a bore scope on the engine, out of curiosity?

My guess is that the original Delav MX 15w40 would be similar to the straight 30 wt. with rgards to oil control. I wonder about the ATF in the fuel causing some of the smoke. I believe that ARX has alot to do with the progress, still in the rinse mode with the 30wt. is my understanding, about half way.

By the way what did the filter and visual of the rockers look like after the cleaning phase?

Didn't see anything unusual in the filter, and the rocker areas was lightly varnished, but quite clean before and after.

ATF was during the rinse phase. Heavy smoking was on Delvac MX 15w40

3,200 a lot better than 2,000. I'll run my BMW clean phase 5,000kms. Then 5,000kms clean phase. 900kms into clean and engine has gone from a reciprotating engine to a turbine with a huge boost to bottom end (rejuvenated VANOS seals is my guess). love RX!
