I am in the process right now of doing the first cycle with auto rx. I am 200 miles away from finishing the 1500 mile wash with synthetic oil Mobil 1 10w30. I need to go on a 1000 mile round trip this weekend.

Do I go ahead and let the arx run the extra milearge this weekend or go ahead and change to dino for the rinse during the 1000 mile round trip?

Thanks.

Dan

What year and model car? History of sludge? If it's fairly new and fairly clean, no harm in running it up to 2300 miles. If you've got sludge buildup, though, you might want to at least change out the filter, if not the oil and filter before your long trip.

If a reasonably clean engine to start with I'd change filter only and do the trip or start the trip and change filter when you have time. After trialling many bottles it doesn't appear critical mileage wise as long as you keep an eye on filter plugging.

Its a 1978 plymouth volare with a 225 slant six that I bought in Nov 2001 with only 16k. It was immediately started on a diet of mobil 1 and was very clean on the inside. Now has 45k miles and I am using arx to clean the ring pack and hopefully stop a rear main seal leak.

Dan,
I'd say make a decision based on the carrier oil you're using. If you used M1, leave it in there but change the filter. If you used dino, change it all out.

Just wanted to come back and report what I did here. I decided to leave the Auto RX in for the 1000 mile trip. I am glad I did now, about 700 miles into the trip, the car started acting better than it ever had. I was like the rings turned loose and started sealing. More power, gas mileage up by 2mpg. the car just runs better. Better acceleration with less gas pedal. Temp gauge not going up and down like it used to. Also, blowby when the pcv valve is pulled out of the valve cover is almost non-existent compared to a good amount of puffing oil smoke before.

All of this is subjective, but it seems like leaving it in the extra miles did the trick.

It did not use a drop of oil during the trip either and it has been using a qt every 1000 miles before.

This weekend I will change to dino for the flush. Pennzoil 10w-40 and a baldwin b2-hpg filter.

After that is done, I think I will try delvac 1 5w-40 and install the bypass setup i have.
