Auto-Rx Is It Worth It ?

The inside of your Volvo engine looks great for over 100,000 miles.Leave well enough alone.

Where does all the sludge go that Auro-X cleans out?...will it plug up small oil passages?

If any one has ever rebuilt an engine you know that it takes a stiff brush and scraper along with the solvent to clean the sludged engine parts.....how does Auto-X do this all by it's self???

vairox, I posted a VOA run on Auto-Rx by amsoils old lab on this site a few years past and 7.1 cSt was all that showed, this is a total ester product and as such normal spectro will show nothing.

Hope that helps.

Terry

Geno ARX is an enzyme type cleaner ...it is not a solvent hence it will not break off large chunks of junk inside of an engine and have it cloge an oil passage ...it will liquify layer by layer the sludge ...some say the varnish too...though I HAVE YET TO SEE THAT ...the dirt is then caught up in the oil filter...you then run a 1500 mile "rinse " cycle of fresh oil and new filter ..which usually cleans the engine even more ...

Thanks for the replies. It's good to know how the autoRX works. I too was concerned about chunks of stuff clogging up oil ports, etc. My next step is to do a compression test/leak down to verify the condition of the rings/valves. I'll also be sending my oil out for another analysis after 3000 miles and the PCV service I just had. If the compression test or oil analysis show a problem, I'll probably consider the AutoRX, otherwise, I'll leave well enough alone and religiously change the oil.

those rms13 pictures are amazing...

Thanks for the suggestion but I'm afraid on the Volvo 850 it's pretty involved. The cams are actually part of the valve cover if you will. What I did do is take a picture of the inside of the oil filler cap. It's gives a good picture of the cam lobes if that helps. What I saw was varnish, but not any sludge.

The metal between the cam lobes appears as if it is sludge but it's not really. It's just some sort of textured metal that looks in the picture to be sludge-like. Hope that makes sense and I apologize if I am jacking this thread.
Thanks!

I have an Mitsubishi Mirage (1992) that has had amazing results with AutoRX. I have had an oil leak for many years and after one full cycle the leak has slowed considerably. It used to leak terribly in the cold Ohio winter, this year it is not losing near the old as before AutoRX. It also drives much better and has better milage. For sure there are lots of snakeoil like products out there... however this one does seem to work. I am sold...........

I have no doubt that it works but $25 US and
$17 for shipping to Canada is too expensive.
What about Redline oil which is ester based ?
It only costs $12 cdn/quart. Mixing one quart
in every oil change will cover three changes.

2k BMW, maybe my experience would help.

I used ARX on my pampered 2002 BMW 330ci with 30k miles. I observed no noticeable difference.

I'm confident this car didn't have any sludge or stuck piston-ring issues.

I also did one treatment on my '98 Chev k1500 with 175k miles. I should have done two, but this truck never missed a 3k oil change. Ever.

In any case, I saw a significant increase in highway fuel economy, and I suspect that ARX loosened stuck ring-packs, therefore increasing compression and fuel economy. I think the above posters are correct when they say its best application is in high mileage vehicles that are suffering from the consequences of long-term use.

Just like everything we import to canada, we get raped on the duty/customs fees. For my part, I wouldn't hesitate to pay all of this for use in a high mileage vehicle, and I intend to order more for a second treatment on that chevy.

Just ordered some ARX for my '96 3.8L Windstar with about 160K miles on it.
I have no pinging on regular unleaded fuel.
I get 20 - 22 mpg on the freeway.
Van runs great.....I have had it since about 37K miles...and it is very well maintained.

I just started using FP60 this past weekend.....was using redline fuel system cleaner before that.
Plan is....to KEEP it running great.

I am not a "snake oil" kind of guy....but my reading on this forum has lead me to try these 2 products.

About 1 year ago....I had a slight miss....that I FINALLY tracked down....had replaced / cleaned lots of things...when it got bad enough to give me a code that told me which cylinder it was.
Cause was just a bit of crud built up on the spray end of the fuel injectors.
I was told that this is normal for a high mileage engine.....is from the EGR gasses combining with the PCV vapors.
I had run Chevron Techron and Redline Complete Fuel System Cleaner through the fuel system.
I removed ALL the fuel injectors....and was able to clean the crud with a simple squirt of Gumout cleaner. Van ran great after that.

I feel that good maintenance is worth more, and is cheaper than repair.
