Auto-Rx and latent effectiveness since I added 2.5 quarts of make up oil 1700 mile into cleaning phase?

Do I still have enough Auto-Rx in the oil to get much effectiveness out of the process?

This engine has seen lots of short trips and probably has the most sludge of any vehicle I have. It will see heavy use this summer with my business and I might actually put on over 10,000 miles this summer on this alone. Should I add more Auto-Rx or continue with with the 2500 cleaning phase. Oil is currently black as coal. At roughly 1,000 miles I did change out the filter since this is my most gunked up engine and the thermostat had been keeping the engine from getting up to full operating temperature. That was recently changed out so now it get up to full operating temps.

This truck see little use during my business off season November - March.

You changed filter at 1000 miles and topped off oil, no need to add more Auto-Rx. Make sure you change out filter at 1500 miles during rinse mode. With as much sludge as you describe add 4 ounces of Auto-Rx as your maintenance dose.

Auto-Rx will be cleaning every oil change using maintenace dose.

Frank,

The make up oil for the smallish filter is less than half a quart if that.

In recent years this truck has been blowing through most of its oil mainly at highway speeds when the manifold pressure is higher than around town. The 22r is not exactly powerful so full throttle on the freeway is common at times. I suspect it may be leaking via the valve guides. I did take a road trip to Montana last weekend and it didn't burn a drop or pull through any oil at all?

So when 2500 miles rolls around near the end of the cleaning cycle and I have replaced the entire crankcase contents with fresh oil [if that happens] . . . I will just do the rinse cycle as normal?

Yes. I would continue to follow the application. ARX has empregnated the deposits during this clean phase of the application. During the rinse phase these empregnated deposits will slowly be carried away with the rinse oil. I suspect that your oil will darken quite quickly during this rinse phase. You will need to likely change out the filter mid-stream of the rinse cycle, approx. 1500 miles. After finishing the rinse, start cleaning application number two. In your case follow the instructions for heavily sludged motors.
