Run it the full OCI as directed. It is completely harmless and you will gain nothing but wasting oil changing it early.

If dirty seals aren't the problem, it isn't going to help much.

You are right....apparently they changed the duration since the last time I read it....3k it is!

The valve seals on the early 4.3's are a know issues with leaking. My 93 GMC Sonoma had the 4.3 and it started smoking on startup at 30k miles and the GMC dealership replaced the valve seals under warranty. All was good from that point on.
