Chronology of Auto-Rx and Volvo Diesel
11-15-03
Hi Frank, I had used the autorx in my '84 Volvo 240 diesel a while back
and it really improved the compression and slowed oil burning.
Sadly (and unrelated to your product) I fried the rings a while later
on vacation (rotella and Mystik oils don't play nice together I found
out the hard way) but the good news is that when I started pulling the
thing apart on the stand last night, I was shocked to see the insides of
a diesel with 235,000 miles on it (that had not been particularly well
maintained before I got it) with NO sludge inside, anywhere. I'll be
able to clean up the oil pan with a rag, instead of a chisel. I haven’t
got the head off yet to pull the pistons , but I'm itching to see what
the ring grooves look like.

I pulled the pistons and all of the rings (that weren’t broken) were floating freely in their grooves,
even the inner coils on the oil control rings are clean.
It's too bad that the cylinders are too far out to reuse the stock size pistons, because these
things clean up with a little brake parts cleaner on the sides and a light brushing on the tops,
no ring groove cleaner needed.

Piston Images
The first two piston pictures (Piston dirty 1, piston dirty 2) are
completely uncleaned, straight out of the engine the junk on them is
filings and carbon scrapings from reaming the ridge off of the cylinder
bore to get the piston out. I left it on so it wouldn't look like I had
cleaned the pistons before taking the pictures.
The next one, Piston clean, was taken of the same piston after blowing
it off with air and spraying it with brake parts cleaner (not exactly
what I would call a tough cleanup)
And lastly the rings picture, is the oil control ring as it came out
(I didn't spray it, so you can see a little reaming residue still on it).
