Auto parts store employee sadness

Taking a life for shoplifting is tragic for both parties.

Even petty crime is out of hand. Sorry to say, it isn't bad enough....yet.

If shoplifting carried the death penalty we'd probably have a lot fewer shoplifters in this country.
Starting to think the ME countries have the right idea, hand removal. I’m going to play devil’s advocate on this one-if the shoplifter(s) started the fight with the manager-then self-defense would be a slam dunk, IMO. He’s fired, for sure, but someone would hire him.

It’s the “broken window” theory-starts with the small stuff, no traffic enforcement, petty theft, dealing, etc. Before long you end up with the South Side of Chicago…

One thing of note here…If you get into a physical confrontation with someone else and it becomes extremely aggressive…

How and can you OR that other person ramp down that circumstance ?

It becomes like a firearm circumstance where once you go that far… It’s all in at that point. Just like a circumstance that happened in another very large city.

It’s exceptionally hard to calm down and not just stay in fight or flight mode.

And… The “ winner” in this confrontation could have possibly have just as easily been the loser as well.

I’m not against charges being brought in this case. My instinct tells me this is a manslaughter case at best… Could be wrong.

And I’m sorry but there are more and more and more people across this country who do NOT believe in private property rights… At all.

And businesses have private property for sale. .

Having said all that.. When I worked at Winn Dixie which was open 24 hours a day 27 years ago a good guy I worked with Mike said, “ hey, if a guy comes in here with a gun and wants to rob this store… I’d ask him if he wants paper or plastic for the money”. The rest of us on night shift all laughed and agreed with Mike on that.

I've worked in security for 22 years and every site I worked at I was told law enforcement wasn't our job. I got out of it before we went armed. Observe and report 😂 Can't say I agree with the employees actions, should have just let him go. But I wasn't there and I've learned not to jump. Maybe our local pd will start taking theft more seriously.

He could try his luck with a jury instead of taking a plea bargain. If I were him, I would NOT waive my right to a speedy trial and hire a defense lawyer that will look for jurors that will be predisposed against the prosecutor. The defense would want someone like @97prizm on the jury.

The cost of a criminal defense attorney with experience trying, well anything, much less homicides, is astronomical. A guy working at an auto parts store cannot afford that kind of scratch.

It may well NOT be your or KC PD not taking theft seriously…

It’s the local district attorney who is NOT taking that seriously.

The problem is when criminals are left unchallenged, they continue to raise their game. Soon it becomes an entitlement to your and others property.

Last month in a suburb of Denver, a Dad and Son woke in the middle of the night stealing a scooter from the homeowner's back yard. They chased the thiefs, but the thiefs got away with the scooter.

The theifs came back later that night and shot up the house, killing the homeowner. It wasn't good enough for the thieves to gain the scooter. They felt entitled to not even be challenged in the theft. This is what happens when it becomes ok for someone to take others property. It becomes an entitlement to the theive.

Here is the story but keep the source in mind, which means the story is more likely than not 🚫 one sided in favor of the thieves/murderes.

Safeway and Walmart have given up. If shoplifting was the death penalty and seizure of your assets were applied I'm fairly sure most people would think twice. Lets face it there are 330 million people in the USA. If the unnecessary were kicked out (Would North Korea, Tajikistan, Jordan, or Russia take them) we'd be much better off. Shoot there are 11 million illegals in this country. England and Australia make sure they never come back.

Just watching the 10pm news and there was a robbery at an outlet mall store near me where 2 men went it and announced that they are going to ransack and rob the store. This was shown on video and they were looking at camera. Police want help to identify the robbers that looked directly in camera. Needless to say they took what they wanted and the employees were safe. Welcome to the new millenium!!!! I guess they caused less damage than the smash and grab.

I am generally a non violent, gentle guy, but for some reason when I watch those smash and grab type short videos it really gets under my skin and I get bad feelings of wanting to harm those people. Heavy sigh.

A local grocery chain that has been around for decades tried to open a new store in Flint a few years back (all this food desert PC crap)
first problem was they couldnt find anyone to work even with decent wages. The second issue was that the majority of the people that came in the store left with their pockets and jackets full of itmes they didnt pay for. They held on for a few months but that was all, they lost millions due to theft. Of course all you hear on TV is how some big mean corporation has abandoned Flint again.
