This filter was off a friends 11' Hyundai Santa Fe with 4cylinder engine. Had some QSUD SM 5W30 from my stash and this filter for 3,799 miles. Put a KIA/HYUNDAI OEM filter and some STP HM SYN 10W30 in and on since I paid $7 per jug

Still have 5 jugs of that oil to use in family and friends stuff

Oil was downright BLACK, almost blacker than my Guinness draft I'm enjoying at the moment. Vehicle has just over 102K on it also and it does 50/50 short trip, town and highway driving.

That oil looks great compared to what is in my girlfriend's 2013 Sonata gdi with 1200 miles/3 months on it. Hers is jet black. We were just discussing in another thread earlier today the importance or unimportance of the color.

When I cut the filter open; oil on baseplate looked real nasty. Oil in pleats though didn't look too bad

You folks are welcome also

Stude, do you recall in what orientation was that filter mounted?

Hyundai went to GDI in 2011, at least in everything I've run into. I have a 2011 GDI Sonata with the 2.4, and it turns the oil to mud if you try and run it much further than 3k.

Welcome to BITOG Junk.
Use SN Plus Dexos 1 / Gen 2 oil in 5w30. Keep changing every 3K. and run 89-93 octane gas.

Filter mounts upward or hangs down when installed

This method does clean. I did something very similar on the Ford Ranger. I used SN Plus Dexos 1 / Gen 2 5W30 oil and put Techron concentrate in the fuel. The oil turned jet black in the first couple oil changes and then the black turned to dark red in the next 2-3 oil changes. The engine used to ping at 2050 to 2150 RPMs on some overpasses. Today the engine does not ping.

+1 Triple_Sev7en.
