I've been a AAA member for years, and though I have never had to use it, I like knowing if I need a tow or my wife needs a tire changed or a jump start when I'm out of town it could come in handy. I recently bought a used motorcycle and my AAA expires in a couple months. I called AAA to see if the bike was covered and it isn't. I can get it covered if I move to a more expensive plan... surprise! I did some research and found that Allstate, Good SAM RV CLUB,BP etc had better plans were rated better and less expensive than AAA. Anybody have any experience with auto clubs? Thanks

man i have used AAA SO MANY times that it has been worth every penny we have paid since 2001, its perfect as far as customer service comes. They always arrived within 30-45 mins even though I have been randomly stranded with a blown tire while out of state...in the middle of no where.
Since you have a bike, I can't say much on that.
I had a friend who had towing through his insurance and they came the next day to tow it....

I had the Allstate plan for a few years. It was a higher end one that covered all vehicles.
I had to use it one time when I needed a diesel truck jumped. I explained that to the foreign operator. I mentioned specifically that it would have to be jumped from a heavy duty vehicle. An hour later a kid with a Mitsubishi Mirage and a jump box from Wal-Mart showed up. FFS.
I called back and explained the situation again. They called me back after 45 minutes and said that nobody was available, but I could find service for myself and submit for reimbursement.
Don't waste your time with Allstate or any of the clubs that contract with them.

Bandito, That's good to know. I was surprised that AAA was rated as number 5 out of 10 and am wondering if one of the others might be a better deal. I am considering others as AAA's plan that I have now has free towing of only 3 miles then it's $4.00 a mile. I didn't realize I had such a basic package having never used it. It's not AAA's fault, I should have reviewed it over the years. I might just upgrade my AAA but was wondering if they're might be better plans out there. Thanks 29662 I hadn't thought of AMA.

I've always used USAA but my wife has all state. Can't say much on the bike because I don't have one but depending on how much the others cover it for, it may just be easier to just keep AAA... I'm surprised they don't offer a discount for loyalty to the company...
Just a funny AAA story that I can't help but share. I have a friend (i swear it was not me) who, when he was in the Marines and broke as a joke would on occasion park his car on the highway and call AAA saying that he ran out of gas. And they would bring him a gallon. Keep in mind gas was at most $1.25 then. Still cracks me up though.
Being able to use AAA to register cars and not have to deal with the idiots at the dmv is worth the fee.

Stopped to help a lady whose lug studs sheared off and her tire + wheel came loose and rolled an extremely long distance into the ditch.
The operator took a lot of convincing that a tow truck was needed and that it was not a simple flat tire.
