I never said it was. I answered the OP to the best of my ability without venturing into this other oil brand is the best, better, cheaper, etc.

What's with AMSoil? The company name is Amsoil.

Any of the Amsoil synthetic 40wt oils will serve you well.

Whats the requirement of the engine? whats your typical OCI? sump capacity? ...power mods?

All I know is I didn't complain about your post, you complained about mine. I don't think dictating how other members respond to questions is really appropriate.

Considering it's the European oils forum, worrying about what my posts do to AMSoil's piece of the action is lame.

I happen to like otc oils. Price, availability, consistentcy, certifications....yeah now that I think about it, there are a LOT of good points to be made there, thanks for bringing it up.

In short, AMSoil made more sense before the Groupe III revolution.

See how it says "AMS" and "oil" in different colours? That's because it's AMSoil, not AMZoil...get it?

You made zero attempt to actually answer the OP's question. That's just weak and IMHO, comes off as ignorant. I don't expect you to know the products, but at least if you want to post in such a thread, help the OP out before just saying don't even bother with what you think or do, buy this because it's "better than anything"!!

I actually have no problem with you thinking your list of oils is superior, nor do I really have a problem with you recommending your favorites when someone asks an open ended question.

Caps for the first three letters? OK, whatever. Because people don't jump in your koolaid pool with exactly your thinking does not make them Amsoil nuts, pretty insulting and "lame", actually.

Umm, there were FOUR OTHER oils mentioned before I even posted in this thread, but you singled me out?

THIS is what I actually said:

THIS is what the OP said to me:

I can't respond as I see fit?

If I want to type a whole page response explaining my theory against extended drains to justify the cost of an expensive oil, that's what I going to do. It's just too bad that it doesn't fit in with your antiquated business model in the 21st century. I went out of my way to praise AMSoil, while discussion the economics and convenience factors...that's too much for you to tolerate?

I can't even count how many time I cut-n-pasted your contact info into messages where people on other forums were looking for AMSoil, with Gary on the East Coast. I didn't steer them toward otc oils. In this case, I was addressing the OP's preconception that cost=quality and "piece of mind". THERE is a theme that should not go unchallenged on this forum. It's not an "AMSoil only" forum, fyi.

I did not single you out. I just thought your quote very very typical of BITOG. Got your "favorite so I'm gonna say it's better" attitude. SOMEONE has to call these kind of posts out!!If I did what you did in this post you would be screaming like a howler monkey and YOU KNOW IT.

Dude - read the very first line of your very first response. Out of the gate you were recommending other oils. You surely don't like if I were to jump in every thread and recommend Amsoil. (I don't do this contrary to popular thought) Of course this is not an Amsoil only forum. But the thread WAS about Amsoil and btw the OP was answering back to you on the cost issue.

I will give it a rest. You are free to post what you want, but it just seems weird that people spend their time trying to talk others out of certain oils into other oils without addressing the original question in the least.

My idea is that people who like and use AMSoil know motor oil for the most part, and are open to input on other good oils.

I recommend all brands, Pennzoil dino just as much as GC, but I kind of figure AMSoil is pretty much on their own with their customers and products. I don't know their product line well enough to comment specifically about it anyway. I think that's the same for a lot of members here, and that's why you get the type of feedback that you see, biased toward favourites. You have to admit, some car forums have been spammed to heck by AMSoil people, on the other hand.

As for M1 HM, it seems like it's intended for Euro vehicles, a market that's been neglected for a long time, that's why I recommend it here....I like to be as accurate as possible when I do that, thus the different brands.

Do I like AMSoil, kind of, but I don't really care for synthetics or extended ocis anyway. When I buy AMSoil, I do so over the counter at NAPA, that's where I'm at.

We started using M1 HM 10W-30 in my sister's 2004 pontiac minvan a couple of years ago after it developed a little rear main seapage with 70k miles on yearly Amsoil oil changes. This slight seepage seems about par for the course on these 3.4 liter engines (in our extended family)from my experience after 100k miles or so regardless of oil used.

We had been changing the M1 HM oil every 6 months or 9k miles, but then they got busy and did not change it for over 15k miles one time. At least they added some when needed to keep it full. They finally changed it with some M1 5W-30 and ran that about 5k miles. When I changed it again back to M1 HM, I looked down into the valvetrain and was surprised to see it still clean, although there was some varnish coloring, which it has had for some time.

I'm telling this to say that I was fairly impressed with the performance of M1 HM 10W-30. She is one of those that gets in the car and runs it hard around town for short trips. I would use the 5W-30 HM if we could find it around here.

+1 exactly! How ordering online is more convenient is beyond me. I like many here always visit the auto section of whatever store I'm in (typically Wal-mart). I'm there minimum once a week. There is no waiting for shipping, no membership, and always under $5.00 a quart and sometimes around $4.00.

Last year I tried picking up some Max Life from Advance and was surprised that it was a 5 qt jug with a WalMart logo on the bottom. Sales person tried scanning it but it wouldn't scan. He decides to "do me a favor" and sell me the 5 qt jug for the same price as their 4 qt. jug.
Right before I paid him, I took a closer look at the bottle and discovered that seal was broken so I opened it up. It was used oil that had been returned for recycling.

I've never had a problem with any mail order purchase that I've made.
